Building Trust 1 Building Trust Trini Wilson Grand Canyon University ADM 620: Leading Public Organizations Dr. Casimir Bilong March 6, 2024
Building Trust 2 Building Trust As I step into my new role as an assistant to the City of Phoenix manager, tasked with spearheading the collaboration between the city and Grand Canyon University (GCU) to enact a quarter-cent sales tax for extending the light rail down Camelback, I am immediately confronted with a myriad of stakeholders whose trust I must earn. These stakeholders encompass a diverse array of individuals and groups, each with their interests, concerns, and influence on the project's outcome. Primarily, there are the residents of Phoenix, who will be directly impacted by the proposed sales tax and the expansion of the light rail system. Their support is crucial for the success of the initiative, as their votes will determine its fate. Additionally, GCU itself is a key stakeholder, as the extension of the light rail to its main entrance stands to benefit the university in many ways, from facilitating transportation for students and faculty to potentially increasing enrollment and campus accessibility. Furthermore, there are local businesses along the Camelback corridor, whose operations and customer base may be affected by the construction and implementation of the project. Engaging with these businesses and addressing their concerns will be essential for garnering their support. Other stakeholders include public transportation advocacy groups, environmental organizations, city officials, and potential investors, all of whom have a personal stake in the project's success and will need to be consulted and kept informed throughout the process. Considering Factors In undertaking this goal, there are several critical factors that must be carefully considered to ensure its success and mitigate potential challenges. Firstly, comprehensive research and analysis are necessary to assess the economic, social, and environmental implications of the proposed
Building Trust 3 sales tax and light rail extension. Understanding the potential benefits and drawbacks of the project will enable me to make informed decisions and effectively communicate its value to stakeholders. Additionally, I must consider the political landscape and navigate any potential opposition or resistance to the initiative. Building a coalition of support among city officials, community leaders, and other influential stakeholders will be essential for overcoming political obstacles and securing approval for the sales tax (Shen et al., 2023). Furthermore, I must prioritize transparency and accountability throughout the process, ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed and involved at every stage of development. Knowledge of Factors Drawing upon my knowledge of these factors, I can employ various strategies to build trust with the diverse array of stakeholders involved in the project. Firstly, clear, and consistent communication will be paramount, as I must effectively convey the goals, benefits, and potential challenges of the initiative to stakeholders in a transparent and accessible manner. This may involve hosting town hall meetings, distributing informational materials, and engaging with stakeholders through various communication channels to solicit feedback and address concerns (Rosen et al., 2018). Additionally, I must demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and partnership by actively seeking input and involvement from stakeholders in the decision-making process. By fostering a sense of ownership and inclusion, I can cultivate trust and build consensus among stakeholders with differing perspectives and interests. Best Practices In recommending best practices to build trust with all stakeholders involved, I advocate for a proactive and inclusive approach that prioritizes communication, collaboration, and
