RESEARCH
QUESTION
&
ISSUE
BACKGROUND
My research question is, what long term impact is social media causing for adolescents? I
thought I would research this topic because social media is evolving into our everyday lives.
Whether we like it or not, social media is our future. The audience must know the pros and cons
that social media brings. And how parents see their
children gain success or fail desperately from the
new consequences social media brings. Social
media is becoming the new normal, bringing
business opportunities, new ways to communicate,
how we make money, and how we shop. It has its
pros and cons, it depends on how you look at it.
ARGUMENT
Considering my research, social media has both
good and bad aspects. For me personally, I think
social media is a great thing. It can help you network
and get involved in our evolving world socially. My
main points would include, making new friends,
finding jobs, improving social skills, and creating a community for yourself. More information I
would add include, 52% of teens felt that social media has improved their friendships as well as
30% of social media users believe that social networking makes them feel more confident and
outgoing. I know some counter arguments will include depression and anxiety rates, but it is
actually the opposite because as stated, kids struggling with drug addiction or eating disorders
or depression can now find help and support online without ever having to leave their homes.
2
Another benefit is building a platform on social media can open a lot of doors for teens and
help them build a positive online reputation. Social media also exposes kids to important
issues all over the world, not just those in their communities. It can also inspire people to
develop healthy habits, try something new, follow their dreams, and speak up about things that
matter to them. People may counter argue that parents are concerned about the dangers of
social media, but over 50% claim that they don't know a childhood with social media so they
don't know how to help their children. I will use my sources to point out as I did above, showing
big points as stated. My argument's aim is to show people that social media is the future
whether we like it or not, and that there are healthy ways to go about it. It is not as bad as
everyone thinks it is. My argument will address both parents and children to show social media
is not “scary” if you approach it in a different way.

GENRE
CHOICE
&
PLAN
The genre choice I have selected is a social media
campaign. I chose this genre because my topic is social
media so why not present the topic within the topic. This
specific genre can help to show both positions because I
can show the pros and cons through social media posts. I
will get super creative and make posts from a parent with
