Were there any challenges you (or your group) experienced trying to identify a theme statement?
Our group had no significant difficulties in identifying a central theme while analyzing the poem "Fifteen." Each member of the group was able to interpret the poem individually right from the start. However, we collectively concluded that the main theme of the poem revolves around the internal struggle of a young boy when he is faced with the choice of taking someone else's motorcycle. Despite his desire to ride the bike, the boy ultimately decides not to, driven by a sense of moral responsibility. The poem emphasizes the theme of moral dilemmas and the pressure that adolescents face when making ethical decisions. By choosing to do the right thing and returning the motorcycle to its rightful owner, the boy is ultimately praised for his integrity. In summary, our group unanimously agreed that this theme captures the essence of the poem "Fifteen."

Did you have similar interpretations of the poem?
Prior to annotating, I made a conscious decision to approach the poem with an open mind, aiming to comprehend its meaning. Initially, my understanding of the poem was limited, but as I began annotating, the fog lifted, and clarity ensued. While I had my own interpretation of
the narrative, a few queries lingered in my mind. I pondered what would have unfolded had the boy indeed chosen to take the motorcycle. Additionally, I contemplated whether his decision not to take it stemmed from fear or a sense of guilt. It is my belief that the man's commendation of the boy as a good man likely altered his perspective on the choices before him. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that although we were all granted the freedom to interpret the text in our own
