EDUC 100 COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The focus of this course is on developing a foundational understanding of special education and how students
with disabilities are supported in our schools and classrooms. The goal is to develop more knowledge about
disabilities as well as challenge mindsets and perspectives around inclusion and disability.
CLASS 3: Special Education in context: People, concerns, history, and educational processes
In this module, we will be focusing on the History of Special Education (SpEd) and SpEd processes.
The goals
are:
1.
Understand and reflect on the history of educating students with disabilities in the US
2.
Know the processes by which we support students who are struggling in school in the US
Keep at the forefront of your thoughts, this essential question
as a guide throughout the
module: Have students with disabilities and those struggling in school historically been supported in
school in equitable and effective ways?
