What are 3-key points presented in this video? Latino voter turnout, what drives Latinos to vote the way they do, and religious upbringings that drive Latino culture and beliefs What did the video identify as a problem or challenge? The video identifies a significant problem of Latino voters being divided among the Republicans and Democrats. Between religious beliefs and other differences, both sides appeal to the Latino voters and caused a large division between them. What is the most surprising aspect of this video? The fact that surprised me the most was that every year there are 1 million Latinos who turn 18, making Hispanics born in America the greatest contributor to their population growth. Did the video change any of your previous understandings or assumptions about voting and/or political participation? If yes, how? If not, why? I was relatively clueless about voter participation in age groups or communities other than my own, and this was eye-opening in the sense that it gave me significant clarification in the ways that the Latino community votes. I was completely unaware of the connection between voting and religious backgrounds. I found it particularly interesting that these differences were key in the split in the Latino vote as a whole. Which part of the video resonated with you the most and why? The part of the video that resonated most with me was the discussion of Latinos turning 18 contributing greatly to the Latino voter population. I had never thought about how previous waves of immigration would affect the future population once they settled down and had families of their own. Summarize this video in only one sentence. This video discussed Latino voter turnout and the many aspects that factor into how and why Latinos vote the way they do. How might you include perspectives or ideas from the video in a group discussion or debate? I would definitely include the perspective that talked about how 1 million Latinos turn 18 every year and contribute greatly to the voting population. I am interested to see how others would take this idea and what conversations would come of it. How credible do you find the sources/information presented? Explain why. They are very credible. All those delivering and finding the information are from prestigious institutions and have experience in the field as well as personal experiences.
Is there more than one way to interpret the information presented? Explain. I don’t think so. The information presented was obtained and shared in a specific manner with a desired end goal in mind, so there isn’t much of a way, if any, to change that design.
