In her essay “More Room”, Judith Ortiz Cofer uses many different similes and metaphors to describe her Grandmother’s house. A smile that Cofer uses is that her Grandmother’s house is like a “chambered nautilus”. A nautilus is an ocean dwelling mollusk whose shell has many different compartments or chambers.
