He made a good point on how in today’s society parents are resulting in becoming their child’s BFF (best friend forever) rather than a parent. He says parents are losing control. He states, “In some cases parents -- already stressed from long days at work and having no desire to spend precious time squabbling with children.” and most importantly, “They gave up on raising children in exchange for peace and quiet on the home-front.” This rings true in some cases but spanking and using physical punishment isn’t the way to get your kids to stop arguing or resisting. I take this experience first hand. I believe that the reason children these days are fighting their parents is because it is a different world, society is changing. In today’s world you give respect to get respect. Many kids, like myself, won’t listen to the parent that says no “just because” but when they have an actual, understandable reason why, then I understand and I listen. In today’s world a child wants to be treated like a person, we want to be able to make our own mistakes, learn our own lessons, and control our own lives.
