The five-minute warning bell goes off. I rush to my first class of my junior year, eager to see my classmates, who I was going to spend the rest of the 9 months with. I find myself stumbling into a classroom plastered with decorations of Denzel Washington with a Dr. Seuss book in his hand, a t and college flags galore. My AP English 11 class suddenly seemed so appealing to me. As a beautiful, curly haired short lady stood in front of me and said “Welcome to AP English 11,” I knew that I had found a treasure so much greater than just a pretty classroom. Little did I know, that short lady was going to inspire me throughout my challenge filled second-to-last year of high school. Mrs. Morris loves organization, reading, her faith, and Lilly Pulitzer. As soon as I saw her jumbo Lilly planner, I knew we would hit it off perfectly fine. In her, I found more than just a fellow Christian, organizer and Lilly lover; I found someone who genuinely cared about my life and about my struggles as a high school student who is trying to figure it all out. Morris inspires me to be a better mom, leader and wife. It seems far-fetched, but she is everything I want to be as an adult. She impacts me positively every single time I walk into her classroom. By ensuring that every single one of her kids feels loved and capable, she would be the first person I put on my dream board to follow in the footsteps of. She is the perfect model of love, and as a leader, I strive to put forth my best effort, just like she does. My experience with her has led to an unbreakable bond, with treasured values that will carry me through college.
