Are Athletes Overpaid?
Athletes in the United States are overpaid. Do they really need that much money for just playing a sport? There are people who save lives such as firefighters or nurses who do not get paid nearly that.
Many athletes make well over a million dollars a year, many are way over 70 million. A normal families income is 54,000 a year. Why are athletes paid more than doctors or firefighters? Yes, athletes have injuries in their career that could end it, but there are soldiers who risk their life and do not even make a quarter of athletes salaries. Entertainment is not as important as doctors or soldiers.
The President of the United States only makes over 400,000 a year while athletes like Lebron James makes over 30 million.
Some think that professional athletes get paid way too much but others think that they are paid what they deserve. The definition of pro athlete by http://www.allaboutcareers.com/ is a person that makes their living by competing in sporting competitions. Since 760 BC, when the first sport was held in Ancient Greece, athletic events have been enjoyed by people. Athletes provide hours of entertainment to many people all over the world. It is clear that professional athletes do not get paid enough, because they get paid the same amount as actors and they don’t do anything physical. Bill gates paid 114.16 every second and athletes get paid 20 million per season, they both work hard for their money. Their money that they should be paid is being held back, therefore, they are not paid to much.
In my opinion, athletes are way overpaid for their career. To begin, athletes have more money than they know what to do with. For example, Derrick Coleman, a basketball player for the nets, filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy after having taken loans from numerous sources throughout Detroit. Because pro athletes like him have so much money, they choose to use it in an amiss way. Athletes can act in a very inane manner with all the money they make each year. Next, we all love to watch athletes, but they aren't achieving or gaining anything important out of all
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
However, back around 1967 when Bart Starr played football and won the first Super Bowl the pay between the President and the athletes was a lot closer Bart made around $100,000 dollars plus an extra $15,000 dollars for winning the super bowl the President around that time was Lyndon B. Johnson and he is estimated to have made around $150,000 the President was actually making more at this time! It is not said when they started to pass the President's pay but it must have happened quite quickly. “Professional athletes are making too much money in a society where salary is traditionally based the values of one's work
Did you know athletes make 100 times more than the everyday nurse? Many athletes are making more money than most of us will see in a life time, which leads us to the question…. Are athletes over-paid? There are many people who would say athletes aren’t over paid while there are some that say athletes are overpaid but I tend to disagree with the first statement. Athletes make an average as a starting player about 5.15 million dollars, which most would say is a large lump sum of money. However, we need to keep in mind the amount of money spent on the actual sport rather than just on them. If we subtract those costs we are left with a few million, which might I point-out has 2 more zeros’ than a nurse’s salary does, and nurses are constantly saving
One reason athletes should be paid less is because their jobs aren't helping the society. For example a nurse only makes $70,000 a year, unlike basketball superstar LeBron James who makes $71 million a year. People that help
Did you know that some professional athletes get paid up to ten million dollars? Yes, some athletes actually get paid as high as thirty million depending on the sport. Sometimes all of that money could just be bonuses. Most athletes get paid for insane reasons and most aren't just scoring. For example, most NFL players get paid for the merchandise or ticket sales! These players should get paid this much they worked hard to get there, most people can't do what they do, and people enjoy watching them play these sports.
Have you ever wondered why athletes why athletes get paid millions of dollars? Since 1995 the NBA salaries have gone up an 80 percent. The NFL salaries have jumped 18.5 percent since 1990. The average American worker makes 46,000 dollars year. Athletes should not get paid as much money because they are not actually working they are just playing sports , also laborers work longer hours and get paid less than athletes do, and finally while workers are working very hard athletes are practicing their sport.
Do you have any idea how huge the amount of money athletes make than people who can save others lives? It could be, at the least, $50 million! Tom Brady who makes about $36 million a year while doctors only make $195,000 a year! I have realized that athletes make a great amount of money. Most people will disagree. People say that Tom Brady is their hero, but what has he done for them? I feel athletes get paid a little more than a small amount too much for simple reasons they are, they get paid more than people who saves lives, they do not give anything back, and they use their money on useless gadgets.
Do athletes really deserve to get paid all this money versus doctors? Many professional athletes get paid millions of dollars. Some people think that these athletes should or shouldn’t get paid all this money. Compare that with the average income for a family, 54,000. Americans who work a full-time job until they’re about 70 years old and still not make that much in a lifetime as athletes. It’s very interesting to study, why should athletes get paid more than firefighters or doctors. There are much more, including the president of the United States.
There are various athletes around the world that receives a huge amount of money. Compared to other professions, famous athletes make a lot more than doctors, engineers, scientists and many more. High class athletes make up to sixty three to four hundred million dollars a year compared to high class doctors who are saving lives everyday or soldiers who fight for their countries everyday, putting their lives on the line. Whether it is putting a ball inside a hoop or ball behind the net, athletes should not be getting payed more than other professionals. Putting your life on the line for your country or trying to save someone’s life is much more worthy of a sixty million dollar earning.
Do we care more about entertainment than our health, and the people that run and fight for our county? Athletes make more money than hard workers, by just playing a game. Also, they often do not do much with their money for others. By all of this we can say, athletes are overpaid… by quite an amount.
There are hundreds upon thousands of athletes around the world who get paid millions of dollars a year while some nurses, doctors, and firefighters, who save people’s lives, wouldn’t make that much in an entire lifetime of working. I don’t believe athletes should make as much as they do.
Athletes make $2-5 million a year. The average family income is $54,000. This is a huge difference. LeBron James made $71 million one year. Firefighters and nurses, people who save lives, didn’t get paid that much. This is incredibly unfair to the people
Are elite athletes/sports men or women being paid too much if not how are there high salaries justified, if so, why, and how could there money be put to better use?
