The combination of techniques and conventions used in both the lyrics and the music video such as camera angles and symbolism are successfully used to create an effective song which reveals the harsh reality of society, the high standards placed upon women to be 'beautiful' and 'pretty' and the lengths young women go to just to fit in and the consequences of this.

In Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” her theme is telling you that you’re beautiful inside and out, despite what you may think or what others may say. She repeats the phrase “I am beautiful, no matter what they say” to get her point across that everyone is beautiful no matter what. My mood was very uplifted after reading this. It made me realize that I am beautiful, and I believe that’s how she wants all her readers to feel.
