This paper includes history of Coca-Cola Company, its SWOT analysis, my proposal of a new product called Maple Cola, which a healthier alternative of Coca Cola.

Coca-Cola Inc. is a global leader in the beverage industry. The history of the company began in 1886 when the curiosity of an Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton, led him to create a distinctive tasting soft drink that could be sold at soda fountains. The name Coca-Cola refers to two of its original ingredients: kola nuts, a source of caffeine, and coca leaves. Later on Dr. John S. Pemberton took his created flavored syrup to his neighborhood pharmacy and mixed it with carbonated water. Those who sampled it deemed the drink “excellent”. Dr. Pemberton’s partner and bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson, is credited with naming the beverage “Coca Cola” as well as designing the trademarked, distinct script, still used today (Worldofcoca-cola.com). Although Coca-Cola Inc.’s headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia, the company’s operational reach encompasses over 200 countries worldwide across six operating regions: Eurasia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America, and Pacific (Coca-colacompany.com). We can say that Coca-Cola is available in every country, including Cuba and North Korea (through the grey market). Today the company produces more than 300 beverage brands and over 1.08 billion drinks are consumed per day around the world.

Coca Cola is one of the most famous and iconic brands in the world. In fact, it is so popular that according to Coca Cola’s most recent newsletter the word “Coca Cola” is the second most understood term worldwide only behind the word “okay.” Coca Cola origin roots can be traced back all the way to 1886 when Coca Cola was invented by John Pemberton who then with the help of his friend Frank Robinson named the drink “Coca Cola” and later on patented the Coca Cola extract. However, in 1888 both the Coca Cola brand name and its formula were acquired by Asa Griggs Candler who would go on to make Coca Cola an iconic brand and would lead an evolution that would change the beverage industry forever. However, Coca Cola would not be where it is now without several key milestones which guided the company to its success now. Some of these key milestones include in 1904 releasing its first Coca Cola Advertisements on magazines and artworks nationwide which began Coke’s popularity as it would go on to be a star in the beverage industry. This led to another key milestone in 1930 as Coca Cola decided to take its company internationally and compete in markets outside United States. This is important as this event lead to enormous success and brand value for Coca Cola as a world famous beverage product.
