Introduction Coca-Cola and Pepsi are two of the most popular drinks in the world. The strong competition between both began in the seventies and continues even to present day. It was even dubbed The “Cola Wars”. Coca-Cola and PepsiCo compete at length with each other among an extensive list of other brands. A key concern for both of these companies in 2011 was their capability to market, produce, and distribute across national boundaries of a single nation. This concern has decreased as both companies were able to push though their limitations and were able to establish manufacturing plants in countries across the globe. (Coca Cola Company, 2011) This paper will review both the income statements and balance sheets of both companies followed by a vertical and horizontal analysis of their annual reports to provide suitable recommendations for improving their financial status. History Coca-Cola has been in existence since 1886. It began in downtown Georgia, by Dr. John S. Pemberton, a pharmacist. His partner Frank M Robinson, who also worked as his bookkeeper was the one who named it as well as the distinct design that is still used today. Coca-Cola has gone on to become the number 1 selling drink globally. (Coca-Cola Company, 2012) Before Dr. Pemberton died in 1888, he sold parts of the business with majority of it to Asa G. Candler an Atlanta businessman. Under Candler’s leadership, Coca‑Cola distribution grew to soda fountains beyond Atlanta. And because of the
If you had an opportunity to solve world hunger you would do it, right? Well a company named Monsanto has set a goal to achieve the mighty task. They look to achieve this goal by creating special seeds that are resistant to pesticides, also which use less water and energy to produce. There are also said to be some big disadvantages to using Monsanto’s methods to producing their seeds that have not yet been researched deeply enough. This raises many questions to people around the world. Many countries who will not even accept seeds from the company over fear of the crops they produce will cause health and environmental detriments. So my question is, can Monsanto solve some of the world’s problems or should we be looking at other better

Coca–Cola a leading manufacturer, distributor and marketer of soft drink products. Coca–Cola was not always the sugary syrup soft drink most people know today. As a matter of fact, before 1886 Coca-Cola was made with alcohol and cocaine. Concocted by Dr. John Pemberton a pharmacist in Atlanta Georgia Coca-Cola was originally named Pemberton’s French Wine Coca. Dr. Pemberton marketed the drink as a cure all for mental and physical disorders and was sold from a soda fountain at his local drug store. A step ahead of prohibition, Dr. Pemberton replace the wine in his formula with a sugary syrup. The cocaine portion of Coca-Cola was removed before 1914 when cocaine was deemed illegal in the United States of America. Coca-Cola as we know today still contains coca but the narcotic portion of cocaine, it is removed. Today, Coca-Cola has expanded to over 200+ countries. From concerts to sport venues to local restaurants you are more than likely to come across a Coca-Cola product, Coca-Cola has had such an impact on society that it is given credit for how we portray Santa Clause today. Other credits should also be given to Coca-Cola like an increase in diabetes and other diseases.
During the Great Depression, Coca-Cola was publicized as the drink in a world without trouble, making it a popular drink amongst an impoverished country. Despite an economical recovery, Coca-Cola’s image never changed, being promoted as a drink that brings happiness and carefreeness. In addition, the popularity of Coca-Cola helped motivate inventors and entrepreneurs to create new carbonated drinks by introducing a thriving market. If people did not realize the potential in the soda market, then many other popular sodas would not be in existence. John Pemberton was not the creator of carbonated drinks, he, like many who soon followed, created a different flavoring to add into the carbonated

In 1866 the curiosity of a pharmacist from the state of Atlanta by the name of Dr. John S. Pemberton led to him creating a beverage with a distinctive taste. The taste was so distinctive that it was immediately questioned if it can be sold in soda fountains. Dr. Pemberton then took his distinctive tasting beverage to a very good friend of his, Frank M. Robinson who was also a pharmacist. They both agreed to add carbonated water and sampled the drink around for reviews. After they received positive reviews on their new drink they decide to take things to the next level and become business partners. They agreed to sell their drink in the market and named the drink Coca-Cola. They also created its trademarked logo, which is still used today.

The history of Coca Cola began in 1886 when Dr. John S Pemberton, an Atlanta pharmacist created a tasty soft drink which could sell at soda fountains. Since then, Coca Cola grew to be a global brand and touched great heights. Today, it sells across 200 countries and is just as popular across all the markets and nations. The company today, owns or licenses and markets more than 500 non alcoholic beverage brands. The brand has only few major competitors in the global market. These two-company’s economic characteristic include their market size and growth rate from the early 2000’s to 2010. Coke and Pepsi have struggled for years in the carbonated and non-alcoholic sector. According to Barbara Murray (2006c) "But as the pop fight has topped out, the industry 's giants have begun relying on new product flavors and looking to noncarbonated beverages for growth.” (Murry, 2006). For instance, Coke boasts in the advertisement as the king of the soft drink; as a consumer of both products, I agree. About 15 years ago, I was selected to participate in a critiquing of Coke and Pepsi products. Additionally, my travel to Africa in 2007 and 2010 provided the same raving review for the Coke Cola products. Apparently, Coke and Pepsi have been rivals for ages locally, regionally, nationally, multinational, and globally, therefore, one expects them to have an on-going rivalry when marketing the high-energy beverages.

It was named by his bookkeeper Frank Robinson as Coca Cola and written in his distinctive, cursive handwriting, (The Coca Cola Company Heritage Timeline, 2011). With modest beginnings from nine glasses a day, Dr. Pemberton expired in 1888 without realizing its true value and potential. As a Candler acquired rights to the business and had a vision. One can say that the early days of this entity saw promotions created internally. This included coupons for free taste sampling and corporate items bearing the logo of Coca Cola at pharmacies. It was "aggressive" promotion that reached the people and required the drink to be available in different forms. John Pemberton ran simple, brisk print ads in newspapers and magazines that he designed himself. 1894 witnessed the bottling of the
