Sevier highlights college’s rising selectivity as a cause of anxiety in teens, along with the rising level of competition that comes with that selectivity. Depression and anxiety are common disorders often confused with each other, but the two couldn’t be more different.There is a fine line between Anxiety and depression that is often blurred. Although there are many differences between the two, they also share many similarities, which can lead to false diagnoses among patients. Originally I planned to observe a group, which focused or addressed the topic of depression or anxiety. However, when my plans to observe this group fell through I decided to watch a group video dealing with adolescences since this is the population I'd most like to work with in the future. Throughout my college career, I have experienced both tremendous stress and overwhelming anxiety. This was caused by my heavy workload. I also was involved in several organizations, especially last semester. I was constantly on-the-go, and was barely getting any sleep. This lack of sleep was not due to stress, but because I genuinely had a lot of work to do. The two different mental disorders, anxiety and depression, obtain more in relation everyday. Although each can have different causes and characteristics they share many common ones. Strong links throughcertain illnesses and disorders like asthma and headaches are being configured through specific chemicals in the brain. Certain combinations of the two can lead to a change in energy leveles causing both anxiety and depression to occur at the same time. Anger is a interesting demon I face because while it is not ever directed towards someone else, it is in fact always directed at myself in my moments of self destruction behavior. It often appears in moments of anxiety and stress, which I often seem to experience due to a number of reasons but I'd normally attribute it to my own destructive childhood where it never felt safe. In response to living in such a highly stressful environment, I became used to intense situations and living in a state of 'fight or flight' mode was extremely harmful for my own state of mine. Once I moved out and started living on my own, my body and mind was not used to the normalcy of life thus triggering states of panic was a normal reaction to very normal every day things. As a class the mean for life events stressors was about 323.5 which is very hazardous because previous research suggested that people that scored above 300 on the life events stressors survey are associated with greater risk of infectious diseases such as flu and other stress related psychological symptoms like anxiety.
