A Comparison of Early 20th and 21st Century Business Technologies Introduction Once a common sight in virtually any American office, the electric typewriter is now a thing of the past. In fact, the century between 1910 and 2010 witnessed both the introduction and the obsolescence of the electric typewriter to the dismay of old school typists who are now forced to find second-hand models if they still want to use them. To determine how the electric typewriter rose and fell within such a relatively short period of time, this paper provides a review of the relevant literature concerning the history of electric typewriters and what happened to cause their obsolescence by 2010. A summary of the research and important findings concerning these issues are presented in the conclusion. Review and Analysis Comparison of 1910 Technology to Current Technology: The Typewriter It is one thing to have sales of a product decline even precipitously, but it is quite another for an entire industry to collapse and disappear in a matter of a few short years, but this is precisely what happened to the electric typewriter. According to a report from Wasserman (2012), "Joining other discarded technologies of late, including the Flip video camera, Kodachrome, and the humble floppy disk is the typewriter, which will no longer be produced anywhere in the world" (p. 2). Like the last buggy whip manufacturer, the last company manufacturing typewriters anywhere (Godrej and Boyce in Mumbai,

After the end of world war I in 1918, Europe was left ruined economically, physically and politically. In 1919 a year after the war take place, nations in Europe were struggling to get out of all the mess they gain from the war. As a matter of fact America only fought for a year and several month therefor U.S was left unharmed by World War I. This reality put America in head start for inventions and technologies for the next decade . During that time many inventors and technologists rise and make different important technologies that we still use them. In general, technologies in the 1920s helped American people to reach at the peak of comfortable living comparing to the standard of living of those
The Sholes and Glidden typewriter had numerous abilities solved many problems that contributed to the growth of the industry. Based on the article “Sholes & Glidden ‘Type Writer’ A Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark” by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Christopher Sholes and Carlos Glidden, with some help from a clock-builder Matthias Schwalbach, James Densmore who provided financing with the development, a fellow inventor Samuel Soulé, and many others, had created the sophisticated machine. After numerous refinements over seven years, the Sholes and Glidden typewriter adopted “a non-alphabetical arrangement for the keys, resulting in the QWERTY layout.” By spreading out the most commonly used letters such as the vowels, the typists could type much faster than before. On a poster provided by the article “Type-Writer: two words, hyphenated” by Mark Adams, the advertisement poster claimed that the Sholes and Glidden typewriter could type up to sixty to one hundred words per minute, which was five times much faster than an expert penmen. Not only did the typewriter increased typewriting speed, the QWERTY key arrangement also solved the jamming problem that previous typewriter caused. According to the article “The Sholes & Glidden Type Writer, with the First QWERTY Keyboard” by Jeremy Norman, the typists in that time period used a technique called “hunt and peck,” a technique where typists would
This country has seen some of the most dramatic changes in technology, the economy, and global dominance to ever occur in America’s history. Times were good during the 1920s as the economy was booming and unemployment was low. However, the market was being overinflated and the pace of economic growth could not be sustained and in 1929 the stock market started dropping significantly. The entire country turned into a panic and the whole economy was being dragged down while unemployment skyrocketed. During the 1930s, America went through the worst depression in recent history. Lawmakers scrambled to figure out how to solve this
A majority of the working people sit at the desk all day, using one or more computers to work with. Even 100 years ago this was unthinkable and far away. The typewriter, the telegraph, and the first telephones and photographic apparatus were regarded as marvels of technology, which became indispensable for some branches of profession. However, most people only had very late access to modern developments that would change life and work sustainably.
Over the decades there were tremendous amount of challenges for every business. Customers have more knowledge, they have more options, and they have higher expectations. Customers are more informed with the humungous development in technology. Having more options in front of them, expectations has surpassed in retail industry. Loyalty is a customer having faith that your organization’s product or services offered is the best for them. It is the process of tapping the buying pattern of customers in a store based on their preferences. Customer loyalty is significant because it is economical to retain the old customers rather than acquiring new customers. So, organizations employ loyalty programs which reward customers for their repeat business.
2) Data about leads, prospects, and customers is managed with a unified database that is used by both the marketing and sales teams.
In 1901, the first radio receiver was succesfuly developed by Guglielmo Marconi. And also in 1901 the first electric typewriter was also invented by George Canfield Blickensderfer. In the early 1900’s, this was a big deal. nothing like these things had been brought to light before that time period, except for the non electric version of the typewriter. The non electric typewriter was invented 32 years ago in 1868 Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule in Milwaukee,
Centuries ago, man used to write on paper with a pen. The innovation that we have within ourselves brought our ancestors the idea of inventing something which in place of using a pen just used a paper and the letters or the text was encrypted on it by a machine. The efforts yielded us the term “Typewriter”. It was a mechanical device which had the letters of the alphabets placed on it with essentials like a button which was used to create spaces between words and the strokes of the letters produced the exact same words on the paper through mechanically moving thongs which impressed letters on the paper. A typical typewriter is shown in the figure; it was the first commercial typewriter which was brought in the market. Christopher Stoles patented
were back in the 60s. Most people had typewriters. People’s styles and fashion have changed
Mankind has come a long way, from reading the traces left by animals in the soil to reading the scratches and scrawls across a white surface, (or the printed letters on a page). However, printed records are hardly ever hand-written anymore since the impact of electronic (and digital) environments are so prevalent in our lives. With the exception of those who still write out their notes for school or send heartfelt cards during the holidays, most people don 't hand-write anything anymore. The “technology” of the alphabet has been used to create printed records, which has proceeded to produce electronic records.
I had only used a typewriter once before. It was years ago, long before I had gotten to the point in the school assembly line where having a laptop was required. We were on ‘holidays’. Or rather the mandatory time allocated every few years to visit interstate relatives. It was electric and looked more like a clunky printer with a keyboard fused to the front then any typewriter you’d envision Hemingway owning. Much to the disappointment of my romantic imagination. Still, experimenting with it was an improvement from venturing out into Pop’s vegetable patch where the cane toads baked their ghoulish skin in the sun.
Most of us never think about the technology we use when writing, whether we are jotting down our “To Do” lists or pulling out a pencil for an exam, we do it without much thought. Walter Ong tells us “Although we take writing so much for granted as to forget that it is a technology, writing is in a way the most drastic of the three technologies of the word (321). I believe that many of us would agree that although we may not consider writing to be a drastic technology, we would say that it is an important one.

21st century global business models today can offer a variety of differing operating system platforms. a system of operational standard proportions that can allow for stability to the foundation of a corporate culture if properly implemented. if done correctly, it will also gradually become part of an even larger external system. This larger living and breathing system, however, is the environmental surroundings of which the corporate entity has been introduced socially.
