Select the theory type that appeals to you most. Consider a case you might encounter in social work practice for which that theory type might apply. Finally, think about why it might be the best one for that case Description Theory type that appeals to me the most, is the Critical Thinking Theory. The reason why I choose critical thinking theory, is the fact that I can relate with this theory with clients. Critical thinking theory is a judgement that a person can make in a complex situation. According to Paul and Elder (2006), “Critical thinking is “self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored and self- corrective thinking.’ (p.2) When using critical thinking theory, a lot of time it goes hands-in-hands with micro and macro practice. E.g. …show more content…
I was so gleeful about this example of critical thinking theory, that I am going to share with my classmates. Hope that it will be an asset for future reference dealing with a similar case you might encounter. E.g. A 14-year-old African American male is referred to the school social worker for talking back to the teacher. This student has been sent to the principal’s office on more than one occasion for fighting with white peers. Additionally, the teacher is requesting that the student be suspended from school for refusing to comply with expected classroom behavior. The school social worker, who is white, listens initially to the students’ explanation of what has occurred. The student becomes angry during the sessions, stating that the teacher is racist and so is everyone at this school. The social worker states that she is not racist and that the student should calm down so she can help him sort this out. The social worker attempts to assist the student in considering what he could have done differently to avoid getting in trouble. The social worker suggests that perhaps the students is overreacting because the teacher is a good person and probably did not intend to offend him. As the session proceeds, the
The brain is considered the most complex organ in the body. It is responsible for controlling motor function, the body’s ability to balance and the ability to translate information sent to the brain by sensory organs. The mind is described as the faculty of consciousness and thought. It’s where our feeling and emotions originate from and defines who we are as a person. The brain is composed of the visual cortex, which is responsible for processing visual information. In blind individuals the feature that makes up visions still exists in the visual cortex. These features are now used to process information received from the other senses. However, blind individuals are able to view the images because what’s in their mind.
According to Paul and Elder (2012), the intellectual standards of critical thinking and their explanations are as follows : 1. Clarity is a clear statement. Relevancy and accuracy cannot be determined if a statement is unclear. To answer or solve any question there must be clarity. The intellectual task at hand is laid out more definitively (Paul & Elder, 2012).
In this study, the professor asked 15 students in his Introductory Psychology class to volunteer to take the smart pill at the start of the semester. The other 15 students in the class who did not volunteer did not take the pill. This was not random assignment because this subject was not an unbiased division, and the professor didn’t create equal groups; therefore, it could affect the result. In general, volunteers do better than non-volunteers because volunteers have more motivation than the people who didn’t volunteer. For example, in the “tutoring study”, people who signed up for tutoring were doing much better than the people who did not sign up for tutoring because the people who sign up care about their grade; on
IT projects can have a lot of different components to them which creates the potential for more risks. These risks need to be identified, analyzed, and addressed as the project progresses (Schwalbe Ph.D., 2014). There are different types of risk that can affect the implementation of a system that will allow people to manage their own human resource information. A positive risks can produce a project under budget or ahead of schedule, while a negative risks can have adverse effects on a project such as going way over budget. There are also some risks that do not have a positive or negative impact on a project. Identifying risks and addressing them is mostly handled by the program manager.
1: People throughout the world are able to respond differently because everyone has a unique perspective at what is visually seen. The art one person can notice may not be art to another. Sometimes are brain plays a grand role when one has a certain perception towards an image. Also based on human characteristics, some people are judgmental of certain pictures because of life events such as religion, culture, or even family.
Some of the feedback that I have heard from employees while conducting personal interviews as well as online postings on Glassdoor have revealed that many employees are dissatisfied with their supervisors. Employees have described many of their supervisors as possessing the traits of the Theory X mental model. Employees have reported to me in-person and on Glassdoor that they feel as though supervisors treat them as disposable resources at times. Employees have mentioned that their supervisors demand that all mail be delivered before employees can go home. It has been reported that some supervisors assume that employees will not want to deliver all or a majority of the mail in their Long Life Vehicles in a timely manner.
You are a member of a group working on a class project. The group members are enthusiastic about the project and arrange a meeting time to begin planning. You forget to mark your calendar and miss the meeting. The group posts a summary of the meeting with assignments and deadlines for the project. You apologize to the group and agree to complete the topic research for the project. You realize you have a paper due in another course on the same day that your research is due, and you concentrate most of your time on your individual assignment. The paper takes longer than you thought, and you are unable to conduct research for the group
Adlerian, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy are three major theories that are used today. All three theories have things that make them similar as well as different.
This research focuses on the importance of moral behavior and its relations with critical thinking. In order to do this I chose to view a certain situation that occurred and had the qualities to prove and discuss my main topic. I chose to use a recent story that occurred during the 2016 NFL Draft, in which a player by the name Laremy Tunsil was publicly humiliated due to him going against his moral behavior. His agent, family, and himself all had to find a way to quickly and critically think how to fix their problem. Through social media and television Mr. Tunsil found himself defending his moral behavior and redeeming himself in order to be drafted.
In the article Types of Theories: Theoretical Orientation and Practices of Therapists by John M. Grohol, the author reviews the four-main school of theory and therapy techniques that are utilized in practice. In my opinion Grohol is a great job in explaining about each theory and giving examples of each of them, I also think he wrote this article in simple enough terms than anyone will be able to read and learn more about psychology and counseling in itself.
I believe that many psychological theories were involved in my choice to study social work. These stages contributed to not only my social, but my intellectual growth as well. They have truly shaped me into the person that I am today.
Chapter three does a great job not only summarizing the three theories social cognitive, resorted action, and self-determination but also gives great examples how all three are unique in their own way. Social cognitive theory or self-efficacy, which is about how the environments around people or groups can affect one’s behavior, but also one can influence their own environment and regulate their own behavior. A theory like this one can be very beneficial when trying to predict new behaviors, such as how likely someone will run one miles versus three miles. Theory of reason distinguishes itself another way, this theory focuses not just on one single activity, but also tries to see how much intention one really has New-year’s resolutions are
Firstly, it was necessary to give the class a concise definition of these broad theories, and follow these definitions with general background explanation on the idea behind the respective theologies. The definitions that we
Theories are set of rules set as a guideline for social workers, they attempt to explain why humans behave the way they do, how they relate to one another and social issues surrounding humans in their daily lives. They are based on facts, use of observation skills looking at signs of needs or danger and description of situations. It clearly explains the event and predicts the outcome of the situation and that helps in social work intervention to influence positive change.
The concepts of critical thinking and creative thinking are both gaining increasing importance in the world today. Critical thinking allows people to understand difficult concepts in a manner that is clearer and more defined. They can more readily understand those concepts if they employ critical thinking. In all portions of everyday life, a person is expected to make independent judgments. Those judgments are based on experience and knowledge. Without the ability to think critically, every situation that a person comes across would have to be considered in isolation from all other situations. When a person encounters a problem that is a new one, he or she may be able to use critical thinking to solve those problems.
