Examining the causes of the American Revolution, one would be on a fool’s errand if trying to point to one reason. There were, in fact, many; however, there is one that comes to mind when thinking back to the revolution—that is, the British wanted the colonies to fight in the French and Indian War (The Seven Years War to the rest of the world). The military of the colonies consisted of militias comprised mostly of farmers who were not as committed to the fight as the King was. In order to pay for the war, the King ordered taxes to be imposed on the colonies—without their consent.
