M1 - Explain how Legislations influence Nurseries Brookside Primary School accepts and abides by the Health and Safety Policy to aim for a safe and healthy environment for children, teaching and non-teaching staff and all other people who arrive on the premises of the school. It also ensures that all member of the school community understand their own responsibilities in maintaining a healthy and safe environment. Principles The establishment of a health and safe environment is essential for the work of the school. It is also a law. It depends upon sound management, vigilant supervision and the co-operation of all children and adults. Responsibilities All members of the school community (teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, pupils and governors) work towards the school’s aims by: Being fully aware of their own responsibilities for maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Knowing all instructions and guidelines of safety within the school. Using common sense at all times to take responsible care for their own safety and of others. Reporting any unidentified hazards to the Head Teacher without delay. Pupils work towards the school’s aims by: Developing a growing understanding of health and safety issues. Contributing to the development of codes of practice. Conducting themselves in an orderly manner in line with these codes. Taking responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy environment and for their own safe conduct within it. Procedures: For ensuring
What are some views on some of the current nursing legislative issues at the federal level? According to Hood (2014) there are many issues the affect citizen safety, health care policy and the control of nursing practice; these issues are encountering the federal legislator today. According to the American Nursing Association some important issues are safe staffing, safe patient handling, nurse workforce development, Health reform, APRN's and nursing home staffing. I believe that patient to nurse ratio is one of the most important issues at this time. I believe that each current nursing legislative issue is important, but in different ways. We as nurse should become involved and fight for our issues in health care.
The stakeholders being students, teachers, and parents. Standard two; an educational leader promotes the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth. Educational leaders must create and maintain a culture which is conducive for learning. Standard three; an educational leader promotes the success of every student by ensuring management of organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment which means providing safety. Safety is crucial in a school, teachers cannot teach in an environment where they feel unprotected and students cannot learn. In today’s society school safety, has become more of a concern be it from those on the outside but more so from those who have access to the inside of our schools. Threats must be taken seriously especially with the increase of students with mental illness walking the halls of our schools. Standard four; an educational leader promotes the success of every student by collaborating with the faculty and community members, responding to diverse community interest and needs, and mobilizing
The second paragraph of the school’s mission statement reiterates the necessity of a safe environment
(Bredekamp, 2009). I will show the parent that we can be in harmony in the program and with the family’s values. I need to take away the feeling that I am right and they are wrong and I need to see that neither one of us are right or wrong. I need to see that we are learning and trying to help their child to grow, learn and develop. (Bredekamp, 2009). The role of our local community is to provide a physical, emotional, and cognitive environment that helps in the development and learning of the child. We with community will build a foundation that is consistent, positive, and caring relationships with adults and children. (Bredekamp, 2009). We will build that relationship with teachers and children and families and teachers. We as community it is our responsibility to contribute to the well-being and learning of the child. I will get the child involved in the community and their families because it helps them to learn about themselves and the world around them. The community involved in my school helps children respect and be able to acknowledge their differences. I as a teacher will develop responsibility and help with self-regulation with the
The environment plays an important role in ensuring the safety in a childcare centre. Although supervising and ensuring the safety of children is part of an educator’s responsibility, it is impossible to supervise everyone around the clock. Thus, identifying and eliminating potential hazards will help educators to create a safe environment for children to play and move freely.
Standard four ‘create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments’ attempts to encapsulate effective behaviour management, schools have adopted five documents in which to assist with meeting this standard, they are; statement of expectations for a disciplined school environment, code of behaviour, safe, supportive & disciplined school environment, and responsible behaviour plan for students & positive behaviour for learning (www.education.qld.gov.au). Porlistok (2015) suggested that classrooms where the teacher recognises appropriate behaviour and acknowledges it verbally is closely linked to how safe the student feels in the classroom environment.
Within the pursuit of a healthy environment, it is clear that the well-being of students comes as a tangent to having their attention for learning. On this token, establishing a healthy classroom must be systemically established by systematic rules. For example, it will be an immediate priority to search for, remove, and replace when possible materials in my classroom that are sharp, easily swallowable, too heavy, too disruptive, and/or too toxic for children to exercise necessary caution around. Similarly, maintaining classroom cleanliness is another key goal. As for the risks, children that are in messy classrooms risk slips and falls around untidied, areas as well as unnecessary exposure to germs. To avoid this, I will be sure to inspect the classroom at the beginning and end of the day for tidiness, while also having a liberal supply of soap and water.
My goal is to create a healthy, respectful, safe, and supportive developmentally learning environment for children and families. Children safety is one of a school’s top priorities. My goal is to use any prevention strategies to promote children safety. Also to promote learning and create an organize classroom environments where students feel safe. Children should feel safe and value in order to learn. I would display children work activities on the classroom walls to help create a comfortable and welcoming environment.
∙ Ensuring that all members of the school community are aware of their own responsibilities
The common thread in each environment is safety. In the physical aspect students must feel safe and comfortable everywhere on school property. Social environment; staff members are open to students’ suggestions, and students participate in decision-making. Staff and students are trained to prevent and resolve conflicts.
From participation in this activity on liability issues, I learned that safety is not only an ongoing issue that should involve all employees, but it should be a priority right up there with education. As an administrator, it will be important to anticipate the school’s needs in order to provide the resources to meet those needs. Since a school, especially a rural school like mine, can be the largest presence in the community, there is a huge amount of exposure due to the role it plays in the community. My school hosts events, serves as the weather shelter for the town, and is often used as the meeting place for organizations. This activity reaffirmed the importance of making safety an ongoing process that involves everyone – teachers, support staff, students, parents, food service, custodial, maintenance and operations, and the community – as well as making it a priority. Because if the school is not safe and operational, then education won’t be able to occur.
As the head of the organization, it is my responsibility to ensure that the school is meeting the needs of both the students and the community. Through the management and operations of the school, I will ensure that all students are receive the highest quality instruction and that we ultimately prepare our students to be 21st century learners. I plan to achieve this by:
There are several considerations which have to be taken into account during the establishment of an HSP. One of these considerations is the ethical framework which drives the requirement for an HSP. But just how necessary is an HSP? One of the basic ethical viewpoints is that of ethical egoism where the maximizing of self-interest is the main motivation. It is in the best interest of the management of the school to minimize injuries to students and staff members whilst they are within the precincts of the school compound. This reduces personal liability for the School Supervisor, Principal, and teachers. There is also the factor of ‘self-preservation’ to consider. Children have less immunity to certain diseases and because they are in such close proximity to each other during the school day, communicable illnesses are easily spread throughout school populations, including to teachers and other staff members. The fundamental self-interest model of ethical egoism can be further expanded to incorporate the enlightened self-interest model which seeks to incorporate the interests of other insofar as these
As a school community we strive to focus all our actions towards a shared vision or mission for the school. Indiana Content Standards for Educators, School Leader – Building Level state in standard 5 that “School building leaders develop a school-wide culture of achievement aligned to the school’s vision of success for every student.” Focusing on this mission makes our instruction intentional and purposeful; we know what we want our students to learn and create clear expectations that will allow this learning to take place. We cannot do this alone. The whole school community needs to work together with this focus. Parents, faculty, and principal all must work together in order to teach the whole child. Faculty who collaborate with one another “create genuine learning communities.” (Hackney 390) Each member can learn from one another to best meet his/her students’ needs. Parents too must be a part of this community. Everyone needs to work together toward the shared mission of student success. When every member of the school community is playing their role in the mission, the
Schools are entrusted with children by their parents for major part of their day. It is expected and desirable to make sure all children feel safe in their environment. Keeping schools safe requires planning and constant vigilance. It's not just a matter of locking all the doors and windows any more. We have to be aware of electronic threats including stealing confidential data and social –emotional threats. School safety has to be everyone's responsibility. Everybody, from the teachers to the maintenance staff, can be a principal’s eyes and ears, but it mainly falls on the building principal to make sure all the safety procedures are in place, followed and practiced regularly.
