Should kids have their own devices? No, devices like smartphone, ipad and television lead to health problems and can be a very big distraction, especially to kids. Giving kids their own devices is giving them more screen time. Some argue that having devices can be helpful and teach the kids more. Yes, that is true but, it is not always like this. Devices can be helpful, but they should not be used to much, and sometimes they may not even have educational content. Kids should not have their own devices because it can lead to health problems, and for the kids it is a big distraction. “Studies show that screen time is tied to health problems. Using computers or phones can lead to being overweight. It also can make it harder for kids to pay attention for long periods of time.” This quote is from newsela and it is shows that screen time leads to many health problems such as being overweight, getting glasses and it is harder for kids to pay attention. Instead of screen time, why not read a book or go outside? Although, these are the right options kids still get hours of screen time. “Most adults do not eat candy bars instead of vegetables. They also know the pleasure of shutting off phones to read a good book or spend time with friends. What …show more content…
For example, a kid is busy playing games and texting their friends to even care about finishing their essay that is due tomorrow. This example simply shows how the kids phones are distracting them from real work. Also, when it does this it can lead into bigger problems such as failing tests that can lead to failing grades. It can be a good way to be connected with your parents however, kids having their own device can also lead to being online bullied. A quote that supports this idea is: “Phones also are a distraction from schoolwork. That's not even considering what kids might be exposed to, including online
Most children today have access to devices such as television, smartphones, computers, and tablets. These devices can be used in a variety of ways, with both positive and negative outcomes. For example, preschool aged children may use a device to learn letters, numbers, or colors. School aged children may use a computer to conduct research, or watch an educational show. A child may also sit in front of the television for many hours, reducing physical activity, and become obese. I believe it is important for the parent or caregiver of the child to monitor the amount of screen time, as well as the content to optimize the benefits these devices can offer.
Hey! I got a question for you. Do you have a phone? Do you think kids should have a phone. Well here are some pros and cons why kids should have phones. So after you’re done reading this choose your side.
Are phones really a distraction? Or can they be a learning tool? Students aren't allowed to use phones because they can be a distraction. Students can use devices to help them learn faster and makes it easier for the student. Even though phones can distract some people in school, students should be able to listen to music or get a hold of their parents in case of an emergency. Students would feel safer and more secure if they could have their phone on them. They could also use their devices to listen to music, because music helps calm the brain. Students bringing their phones to school can be cost effective for the schools instead of having to purchase technology for students.
Children should limit their time on media screens, for example in passage 1, it says children in the united states have an average of 7.5 hours of screen time per day. I understand that electronics such as ipads, cell phones or computers are entertaining, but as young children should'nt surround their themselves around that much screen time, they are basically throwing all of their youth away. My opinion kids need to be kids, and play outside with their friends, interact, and play with their toys.
I disagree with this article because kids at age 6 – to 8 shouldn’t be on their iPod and tablets all day. They should be outside playing with family and friends making memories. When kids at this age have accuses to “Small Screen devices”, they wouldn’t want to do anything else, but be glued to their iPods and tablets. Once you give them an iPod, they would never get rid of it. I feel like letting young kids have their own electronic device it would affect them being a kid, I don’t think that should be taken away from them. Moreover, I don’t think children shouldn’t have accuses to technology, because the violent that are on the media can cause aggression for children.
Here’s more on why younger children should not have phones. The first reason that kids shouldn’t have phones is that they are on them all the time. For some kids they don’t ever get off them. This isn’t a good thing because then they become antisocial.
Did you know that a large percent of kids have their first smartphone in elementary school? Many underage elementary schoolers are owning smartphones. The number of elementary school students owning a smartphone has increased a lot since 2012. When kids don’t have phones they can do much more than sitting, playing games, and searching the internet. Instead, they can play outside with their friends like normal elementary students. Overall, elementary schoolers shouldn’t have smartphones.
In the United States, the average child watches about fourteen hours of television each week (Impact). Over Usage of television can result in negative effects on sleep and attention (Feiler). Restricting time limits the amount of negative intake a child may receive. Television watching should be restricted to no more than two hours per day (Impact). Cell phones also distract children greatly and have affected children's everyday life. Cutting back cell phone useage prevents negative effects. Children should not be allowed to use a cellular device while doing any homework or school activity (Feiler). Also, tech-free dining is an effective way to keep children off cell phones. No cellular device should be used when participating in family activities (Feiler). The best way to reduce time spent with technology is not allowing children to have a computer, television, or any type of gaming console in their room (Impact). Parents then can control time spent, monitor what their child is viewing, and protect their children from being negatively influenced by any new technology. Preventing children from having this kind of equipment in their room also keeps them safe from social media bullying
Technology has been proven to have numerous negative effects on children of all ages. If a child sits by himself all day playing
Smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions alike have all become a major part of modern culture. They inform, entertain, amuses and assist us every day with news articles, videos and funny blurbs. But technology’s potentially harmful effect on young children has been a concern of adults for years. Whether brainwashing children, ruining their eyes or making them violent, the list of the damaging results of tech use grows longer by the minute. Parents feel the need to limit their child’s exposure to the provocative screens before the damage is irreversible. The concern is completely valid; technology has the ability to entirely capture a child’s attention in almost an unlimited fashion, there is endless amounts of information for a young mind to absorb. Access to this sea of knowledge could keep a child from experiencing more physical and interactive activities that build up other important skills and developments in children. But this sea of knowledge does in fact hold many benefits for kids. Much of the teachings that daycares and schools provide are on these devices and early access could help put a kid ahead of the pack. In addition, because of the tremendous impact of technology and its involvement with humans, kids who learn to use phones and tablets early will be more exposed and adjusted to an everchanging world. In essence, the dangers of young children overusing electronics exist but are not life-threatening, when use of technology is managed properly children
I have a smartphone myself, but I would always prefer going out and talking to people, than sitting around a table watching a video or playing a game on my phone. This is wrong. Things like this shouldn’t be happening and it’s even more worrying when we talk about primary school kids that have a whole life in front of themselves. If this is what they will do when they will have families this world will be a disastrous one to live in. Just imagine a world in which instead of going out
When I was a child I spent the majority of my day outdoors with friends, riding my bike and playing games; only coming home when the street lights came on. Today, however, kids are enamoured with technology. The rapid changes in technology have impacted greatly on the families of the 21st century and it is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Entertainment technologies such as games consoles, television and tablets are taking centre stage in our children’s lives with 1 in 3 children using a tablet before they can talk. At present, children are part of a digital generation, having grown up surrounded by technology and the internet. Is the increase in technology devices harming our children?
We live in a time-period filled with technology and on a daily basis; we see dozens of electronic devices from smart phones to laptops. Most households own more than one of these devices, and one of the biggest audiences using these electronics are children. Normally ranging from the ages of two to nine years old, majorities of kids in this age group use touch devices and some own their very own. While these smart devices have the potential to educate, the main purpose children use them for is entertainment. With all the time children spend starring at these screens they are not only wasting time but could potentially be harming themselves, and therefore most parents should be cautious with allowing their children to own their own smart devices as well as limit their screen time.
Children under the age of 11 should not have cell phones. “As children, many of us were taught never to talk to strangers. As parents and grandparents, our message must change with technology to include strangers on the internet”, says Judy Biggert. Nowadays, everyone just replies on their devices. Once children start using their devices, they would have a hard time letting go. About 20 years ago children went outside, played tag, rode their bikes, or maybe even played sports. But now that time is finished, because cell phones are taking over.
There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don’t mind their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they are young.
