Death Penalty: Is China worst executor due to the morality? Samo Valuch ENG 290 Miles White Explanatory paper November 20th, 2011 The death penalty or in other words capital punishment is a form of execution used for a long time. It is a form of punishment that was and still is used by several countries for various types of crimes for hundreds of years. However the death penalty has become a very debatable and confronting issue for last decades due to the fact of people having different opinions on this issue. In some countries it is considered to be a part of the judicial system, while …show more content…
He tries to raise and show the importance of the death penalty issue. Within his article he refers to a research institution called Amnesty International. According to their research, the evidence show that in year 2010, the death penalty was used in 23 countries.( The Atlantic, 2011) United States ranked in top five with the number of 46 executed prisoners, Iran placed second with number of 252 executed prisoners, and China ranked first, executing thousands of prisoners.( The Atlantic, 2011) However there is no exact evidence to the Chinese execution numbers. The Chinese government keeps it in secret. Even when I searched the Amnesty International report of death penalty, their report show similar numbers that I found in Max Fishers article, however the numbers about the Chinese executions are not shown due to the fact of being hidden by Chinese government. According to report, “the worst offending countries are Iran with at least 388 executions, Iraq with at least 120, Saudi Arabia with at least 69 and the USA with about 52 executions.” (Amnesty International, 2009) These numbers are still quite high due to the fact that a general trend toward abolition of the death penalty has increased and more countries have abolished death penalty. I was little curious, if I can find any more about the numbers of Chinese execution cases. I found an article in BBC news, written by Chris
According to a dozen recent studies an execution does save lives. For each inmate execution it is shown by studies that three to eighteen murders are prevented. By that it shows a big number that is getting prevented by murders.
The death penalty is a punishment where if a person has committed a crime of such a high caliber (Ex: mass murder) that the only plausible punishment is death by electricity, firing squad or lethal injection. The death penalty been used throughout history like in the french revolution and has been in effect for a long time in countries like the United States. Though it has not always worked as executions of death row inmates have gone haywire leading to an excruciatingly painful death for what is supposed to be quick and clean. Furthermore, there have also been instances in which, people who were executed after receiving the death penalty turned out to be innocent like Cameron Todd Willingham. These problems and more with the capital punishment has and have sparked a public outcry
In 2013, there were at least 778 executions in the world and there are more than 22 countries to establish the death penalty law. Also since 1992 through 2012 there has been more than 8000 people who has suffered from a death sentence. At least 607 executions were carried out in 2014. This does not include the executions that were carried out in China. Such statistics are considered to be state secrets where beginning in 2009, the international ceased to publish minimum figures for the use of the death penalty in
First, I needed to view into other countries and examine why they still allow to have capital punishment in their country. Out of 196 countries in the world only 58 of those countries still embrace capital punishment. China is at the top of the list that carries out the highest executions each year than all other country. With an overpopulated country I can recognize why they carry out the highest executions than all other country in the world. One of the reasons that China allows capital punishment is to crack down on crimes. With an over populated country they are sure to have a high crime rates due to not having enough jobs, and people starving. China’s jails were getting overpopulated with the poor conditions and shortage of food for inmates. In order to free up space in jail’s China conducts capital punishment on those inmates that have carried out a serious or heinous crime. China carries out the death sentence in two ways first being by lethal injection and the second is carried out by a firing squad. Those that conduct serious crimes preserve the right to a trial and a lawyer, however if convicted of a serious crime such as murder a person will be sentenced to capital punishment. The majority of China’s people supports

The website has been constantly revised, therefore it is most likely to be up to date.
The question of capital punishment has been stirring heated debate in regards to whether it indeed does or doesn’t deter crimes. It is important before venturing deeper to understand what death penalty/capital punishment is. Capital punishment refers to a legal course of action where the state puts one to death as a punishment for a crime. The decree by the judiciary for a
The article, “China to ‘Tighten Up’ on Illegally Obtained Evidence, Protect Criminal Suspects’ Rights”, was very interesting. It’s about all the ways China is trying to prevent injustice in the executive and judicial systems by protecting the rights of criminals before and after conviction. There are several ways in which efforts have been taken. One is the tightening of judicial procedures when it comes to what is and isn’t legal evidence and upholding the “innocent until proven guilty” policy in courts. Another effort being the installment of video recording equipment in detention facilities and interviewing rooms to prevent any acts of torture or illegal motives to gain evidence. Lastly, another action is the creation of China’s first anti-domestic violence law, clearly defining domestic violence as the physical or psychological abuse of anyone.
According to Amnesty International, one hundred and forty countries have abolished the death penalty. In 2012, only one country, Latvia, abolished the death penalty for all crimes. In 2013, twenty two countries around the world were known to have carried out executions and at least fifty seven to have imposed death sentences (“Amnesty International”, 2015). The United States is the only Western industrial nation to have the death penalty and is ranked fifth for the highest numbers of executions in the entire world. The country is ranked behind China, Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia for the most executions last year and remains ahead of Yemen and Sudan. However, this ranking is not a surprise due to the same countries remaining in the top eight every year. According to Brian Evans, the director of Amnesty International, “the U.S. has a strict attitude toward punishment in general. Having a severe attitude toward the death penalty is only natural when you consider that the U.S. leads the world in mass incarceration of prisoners (“Amnesty International”,
Whether capital punishment is fair or not a longstanding controversy. Currently the punishment has still been carried out in some countries, such as China and the United States. Numbers of capital punishment in China is in the first place, compared to other countries (Sterbenz, 2014). However, 98 countries have abolished capital punishment (Amnesty International facts and figures on the death penalty, 2007). Although most of countries have no capital punishment to crimes, it is still argued whether it can decrease crime rate and other social issues.
The death penalty for years has been a controversial topic especially in the U.S. Therefore two sides excist one would say that the death penalty is fair because any race can get it the other side would disagree and say that the death penalty is not fair. If we take a look at the death penalty now you would see that it is not fair at all. An analysis by ACLU states “The results of their study proved that the odds of receiving the death penalty in Philadelphia increased by 38% when the accused was black” In addition another analysis done concludes that “ the odds of getting a death sentence increased three and a half times if the victim was white rather than black”. As a result the death penalty is discriminatory toward people of color the death penalty in the U.S is unfair and racist.
The Death Penalty was never the right result in American history. A lot of people were wrongfully convicted and were sentenced to die. The government has to pay thousands more dollars for the death penalty. About 70 years ago, 14 year old George Stinney was executed for murdering two white girls and was held without a fair trial. The reason why it's more expensive because more lawyers, more experts, and more time. District Attorney Estimated that Randall County paid between $500,0000- $700,000 to obtain a death sentence. Being in prison isolated from people for so many years can start hallucinations and self imprisonment. Capital punishment is not necessary because inmates are wrongly convicted, decades
The United States of America is one of the few countries that still impose death sentences regularly. The People’s Republic of China is also one of these countries. Both are similar in that they are among the top executing countries in the world. Yet they differ in many ways such as, types of crimes that are death penalty eligible, the number of people that are executed, trial processes, and methods of execution. I consider these to be the biggest differences between The People’s Republic of China and the United States of America.
I. The death penalty does not deter crime and has no beneficial effect on murder rates.
The crimes of rape, torture, murder, and many more. I think if they commit these crimes they should be killed. They would be killed by being dug into the ground with head popping out and stoned until death, this killing technique was used back in the middle age time.
Capital punishment is a practice in which prisoners are executed in accordance with judicial practice when they are convicted of committing what is known as a “capital crime.” Capital crimes are crimes deemed so heinous that they should be punishable by death.
