There are many ways figurative language can be expressed. One way of expressing figurative language is music. Taylor Swift’s song Mean is a good example of this because it contains similes and metaphorical elements. She expresses how other people’s words can emotionally damage ones feelings, “You, with your words like knives and swords and weapons that you use against me” (Taylor Swift, Mean). This simile is a direct comparison between weapons and words. The “knives and swords” are being used against the author (Taylor) by the other person. This simile gives people an image of weaponry physically harming a person but not actually physically harming them.
