Film Analysis: Run, Boy Run

The main character, a young, German man named Peter Muller, was very traumatized by what the Nazi's and Gestapo (the terrorist political police of the Nazi regime founded by Hermann Göring, whose purpose was to persecute all political opponents of the Nazi regime) did to his father. Over the course of the movie, Peter went through a change; he saw his father in a new light, and realized what really mattered in the world around him. Peter's father was a violinist and professor at the university. He spoke out against the expulsion of the Jewish professors and the entire Nazi movement. Because of this, one night, in the middle of dinner, he was taken away by the Gestapo. He was brought back home

What if I told you that I know the outcome of your life and where you will end up before you even know it? Wouldn’t you be scared? See for a regular person who has a supporting family around them this question will almost feel almost like a death sentence. Nobody wants anyone to judge them before they even go through life on what they will end up being.

The movie is mainly about a group of men going into war in order to fight for their motherland, “Germany”. The setting mainly takes place between the warfront and the camp where Paul Baumer, one of the main characters, stays.

This structure is commonly seen in any film or television production, as using the structure makes sure that the narrative is continuing to move forward, and is developing. The film plot line I will be studying and making an analysis on is The Lost Boys.

The title of the film that I watched was Flyboys. It was Directed by Tony Bill and was released on September 22, 2006 in the United States. Some of the main cast members were James Franco as Blaine Rawlings, Jean Reno as Captain Thenault, Jennifer Decker as Lucienne, Martin Henderson as Reed Cassidy, and David Ellison as Eddie Beagle. The genre of the movie is action, adventure, and drama. It was based on a true story. This movie takes place in 1916 in France before America joins World War I. The Americans go over to France to learn how to become fighter pilots to help France against Germany. Their squadron is known as Lafayette Escadrille.

This movie was about Michael Dunne, a Canadian soldier in WWI. In the beginning, he fought against a very young German soldier and killed him. Michael was so horrified with what he had done that he ran away from the army. Later, he was trying not to be sent back to the battlefield because he would have been killed for deserting the army. Instead he was sent back to Calgary where Michael saw Sarah and fell in love with her. Sarah’s younger brother, David, was convinced to join the army by his girlfriend’s father. Michael rejoined the army under a new name so that he could protect David. In the end, Michael saved David when he was accidentally crucified and while doing this Michael sustained fatal injuries. David lost the use of his legs, but he survived and he went home.

In one scene, the jewish refugees capture a German scout,They crowd around him and eventually beat him to death.As one of the darker scenes in the movie, it shows revenge in one of its rawest forms. The main characters in the film, the Bielski brothers, fight against the nazis not only to survive, but to try and get back at the Nazi threat.

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood leaves the audience questioning, asking, and wanting more. The entirety of the film is a recollection of memories and experiences throughout the course of Mason’s childhood. Overall Boyhood is like an unsolved puzzle with missing pieces that aren’t enough to solve the puzzle. The entire movie is questionable and has so many gaps in-between each memory that there really is no plot. Since there isn’t a plot it makes you question if it is really about boyhood, about family, maybe Mason’s childhood, or girlhood. Certain questions begin to formulate like, why doesn’t Linklater use the typical format of storytelling during Mason’s childhood? How come we never know what happened between Oliva and Mason Sr? Boyz N the Hood, displays the challenging upbringing of adolescents who have to live with harsh conditions around not only their home but also their surrounding town. The film compares the differences between the lifestyles of Tre Styles and his friends’, Darren and Ricky Baker. Darren and Ricky are half-brothers who are nothing alike. Singleton demonstrates the importance of male leadership in a home in the ghetto of Los Angeles by comparing the difference between the lifestyles of Tre and his friends. While many adolescents in the hood have close friendships, some form close relationships by assembling gangs and create a world of violence due to alcohol abuse, which together ultimately breeds discrimination.

It is about a boy, Hally, dealing with his abusive alcoholic father and his relationship with Sam, who is more of a father figure than his dad. The film adaptation of Athol Fugard’s play directed by Lonny Price is an impactful piece of art and it truly compliments the play.
