Forced Choice Values Inventory

Personally, it is not difficult to identify the core values that I hold dear, that guide my behavior. It is, however, much more difficult to rank them in terms of their importance to me. If I’m paring down a list of important values that I believe are most influential to me, responsibility, sacrifice, laughter, and integrity stand out as those that simply guide my behavior on a regular basis. If I’m attempting to put them in order, it would be as follows:

Honesty, Love, and Dedication. These three values are, what I like to believe, the core of my very being, the epitome of what I seek to become in life, and the three major moral virtues I seek in my relationships with others. Honesty - named first as its importance to me is primary - generates a safe, secure environment that allows for trust, friendship, and genuine understanding. It also serves as the basis for all other values and relationships due to its vigilant stability and moral foundation. Love is the second most important value I hold to my heart. Without it, I don't think any human could find their way in life. It is through the love of others, as well as the love we show ourselves, that has the ability to save us from our struggles,

The values are the principles or standards which could include rules of conduct, respect, honesty, kindness, sharing and appreciation.

My family has always been there to support me and motivate me to be a better person. Faith is important to me because it helps me to believe that I can do anything I put my mind to and that when something bad happens to me it will get better. Honesty is important to me because I do not think it is right to lie and be misleading. People do not like to be lied to and do not like to be associated with dishonest people. Ambition is an important value to me because it is something that I was raised to have. I am known as an over-achiever and I always try to do my best at everything I do. I try hard to be the best that I can possibly be. Thankfulness is important to me because so many people take things and people for granted. Sometimes I may think that times are hard, but the reality is that it could be so much worse and a lot of people have life a lot harder than I do. Courtesy is a value I have because it is important to be nice to people. I think that being polite to people can turn their bad day into a good day. Accuracy is also important to me because I like to do things the right way. I would rather work hard to do my very best rather than take a short cut to not give my all. Financial Independence is important because I do not want to have to depend on anyone else to pay for my things. Another important value to me is affection, whether it is with words or physically. Kindness gets you trust and companionship. My second most important value is honesty. Honesty shows you are loyal and are not to do wrong by lying. The truth is always the best path even if it does not seem like it. A child who is honest is a child who is pure.

The Personal Values Assessment is a tool used to address personal values and awareness. This tool uses the Barrett Seven Levels of Consciousness Model to identify strengths and weaknesses. The seven levels of consciousness are: service, making a difference, internal cohesion, transformation, self-esteem, relationship, and survival. These areas are then grouped into self-interest, transformation, and common good (Personal Values Assessment, n.d.). Self-interest includes survival, relationship, and self-esteem. Common good includes internal cohesion, making a difference, and service. Lastly, transformation is grouped by itself (Personal Values Assessment, n.d.). Most of my results fall into the categories for letting go of fears and finding the meaning in existence. Compassion is in the area of self-less service and self-discipline is in the area of satisfying our physical and survival needs. My overall results concluded that I have a “strong set of moral standards” and I believe that it is important to treat others fairly (Personal Values Assessment, n.d.). I am true to myself and my principles, I take ownership of my actions and like others to as well, I am “flexible and respond well to change”, I have a strong sense of caring and empathy, and that I enjoy working with others (Personal Values

I tend to value power of control over others (Project 2 Assessment, 2017). I would agree with these results based on the fact that I do like to give my opinion. This results from thinking my opinion is the correct option. I determined that I have achievement driven values. I believe I am extremely hard working. At times, I feel like I can become too hard working, to the point of completely draining myself. Other categories that I determined that I valued was self-direction, benevolence, tradition, conformity, and security. I do not value stimulation that much. I am the opposite of being a daring individual. I do like trying new things and going new places, but not putting myself at risk. I would never risk my life to seek adventure. To me that would be completely crazy.

My second top value was honesty. I feel that honesty is very important, and it is something that I use in my personal and professional relationships. I want to do the best job I can, and it’s important to be honest in what I am doing, what I stand for, and how I care of

The values that supported my choice were to be able to save money and to eat healthier.

Family and motherhood holds the #1 spot in my value system. I value motherhood so much due to not having it as a child, I turned into a young adult looking for love in unnatural ways never feeling love unconditionally. As, a 40+ woman, I had to evaluate the influence it had on my life choices, how looking for unconditional love in relationships lead to divorces and co-parenting of children.
