Forced Choice Values Inventory

Our personal values are the core of who we are and guide us in the decisions that we choose. This reflection paper is based off of the “Forced Choice Values Inventory” test that myself and a partner completed. My partner and I had to independently rank 21 different values in a variety of 5 grouping options. Then each value is ranked in using total points, which allows the 21 individual values to be listed from #1 (the most important) to #21 (the least important). After this was completed, we sat down, compared each other’s values and discussed what values were similar and different. It is interesting to see the differences in what I chose as priority versus what my partner chose as priority. When looking over the top ten for both of us, eight out of ten were the same. The eight values that matched were respectfulness, ambition, honesty, knowledge, sensitivity, manners, helpfulness, and intelligence. When discussing these similar values we both agreed that these were easier for us to rank higher than others and it that it felt natural. These are values that we believe each of us personally show within ourselves and the choices we make. There were also similarities in what each of us chose to list as the least important values. The first value discussed was punctuality which was listed higher on my partner’s values than mine. My partner felt that this should be much higher on my list and she takes personal offense to some who is not punctual. She feels there is no excuse for improper punctuality. I understand the feelings that my partner expressed, but that this is not as high as a priority when grouped with the other optioned presented. She said this was one thing about my personality that she was able to notice and felt I should take it more
