Freshman Strategies Analysis

Being a freshman can be quite intimidating, especially because you are at the bottom of the totem pole. You are worried about finding the right classrooms, impressing teachers, sometimes maintaining your grades. I can tell you from a senior standpoint that things aren’t as bad as they seem. Yes, teachers will pile on the homework once and awhile, but I promise you will survive. As graduation day is approaching fast than I want, I have a little advice for freshman. Freshman you need to take your grades seriously because they will impact your future, you may think you know everything, but trust me you don’t, and most importantly is to have fun because before you know it you will be writing this same timed writing as I am right now.

For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or overwhelming depending on how well one prepares for it. Some have the notion that college is fun and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look forward to experiencing a different learning environment while being exposed to different cultures and sharing different academic knowledge. Heading from middle school to high school can seem somewhat intimidating to the average teenager. No more will you be in the safety of those peers you grew up with as you head off to the larger high school that allows you to blend in with grades 9th through 12th. Many first time freshman year high school students are filled with mixed emotions on this next chapter in their life. Today I am sharing some tips on how to survive freshman year at high school so that you can help your teenager relax and breeze through the first days of being a high school freshman.

I have listed below some great tips for students to be successful while in college, please feel free to implement them as you feel needed:

Coming into high school can be very nerve racking. Everyone makes jokes about you being a freshman, you aren’t familiar with the building, and you don't always have people you know in your classes. Three pieces of advice I have for incoming freshmen are to keep personal things to yourself, stay out of other people's business, and don’t worry what others think of you.

Junior year has taught me a lot on how to become a better student and better friend. To all the incoming juniors, my advice to them would be stay focused. Junior year brings a lot of changes in many students lives. It will test your strengths and weaknesses but it will reveal the type of individual you are. One idea that I was able to understand better was that it’s important to know what your goals are. Having a goal will not only keep you focused in accomplishing said goal but it will also be the thing that keeps you moving forward despite the obstacles, that as an incoming junior, one will encounter throughout the year. Your goals do not have to be specific it can be something minor such as just getting through high school being proud of

Your Professor’s don’t really care about what you do. They don’t care if you don’t show up to class or not. A tip I would give you is to make sure your Professor’s know you or at least recognize you, even if that means asking questions the whole class period. Another way that college is different is that you don’t stay in classes for a whole 8 hours, you just go to your class then go back to your room. Another thing is the work load. You get your assignments in the beginning of the year and all your due dates, it’s up to you to get them done and turned in. Also the study habits, are crucial, you have so much time on your hands to do whatever so time management is important. Another thing is parties, there are going to be parties probably every other night so you attending them should be a responsible decision. Do not get caught up in boys and girls either. Relationships will come on their own and the worst thing you could do is get caught doing “The Walk of Shame”. The walk of Shame is basically when you leave to go meet an upperclassman and you have to walk back because he won’t drive you back and you half dressed. College life is an exciting time for young adults coming out of high school. The students find themselves with so many new experiences to face; many of these changes, from new found freedom to the unexpected responsibilities, are frequently underestimated by the newly promoted freshman.

As freshmen, there is a massive weight on their shoulders. This year sets the tone for the rest of their high school career. That pressure, and suddenly being thrust into a brand new ecosystem with different rules and expectations, makes freshman year one of the toughest.

As a girl who has gone through freshman year, I have learned what you should really value in your freshman year. The relationships you make in freshman year, the grades you make, and the way you walk with the Lord your freshman year are so important for you to have a great freshman year.

I never really knew how I felt about starting high school. While I was so nervous and dreading the new environment. Also, I don’t know how to open up to new people. By the time, I thought I am going to fall into a big hole and never get out of it. However, the time has gone by so fast, I did not realize that I have so many friends. Freshman year, the year of many first; the first time living away from home, the first time being away from friends, the first time a student has control of their own learning. Freshman year requires a lot of discipline, but a lot of students do not possess this trait. The factors that contribute to the success of first year college students are social support, comfort within the college environment, self control,responsibiliy and positive self concept.

The first year of college comes with many changes and challenges. These changes can include the food in the cafeteria, study habits, time management skills, and much more. Every student has to find their own way to handle the first year and determine what works best for them. For many the most essential change is living away from home. Campus life provides opportunities to become a part of a unique, diversified community. I remember this lady from ODU clear a day was telling my class her experience of college and her very first day of college .She explain she didn’t know what to make of meeting new people transitioning to a new chapter in like becoming an adult. In college you make a lot of decision of your own she talk about that challenge of people get caught up with partying and keeping up with grades. You have to balance everything because e getting overwhelm she seen it people stresses out with college. It can affect how your behavior and altitude when you become overwhelmed.
