Athens is located on the bottom right side of Greece near the Saronic Gulf Islands. The city is surrounded by the Aegean Sea, Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Evoikos, the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth. Not only is Athens surrounded by various bodies of water, but on land surrounded by the mountains: Aigaleo to the west, Parnes to the north, Pentelikon to the northeast, and Hymettus to the east. The city’s location being at the bottom of the country instead of more north and inland, gives it a typical mediterranean climate (which would be no different than Sparta’s). Athen’s values align primarily with education, progression, and the well-being of its society.

They everyday family in Ancient Greece is what you might typically think of an ancient family dynamic. Marriage was typically arranged when males were between the age of 25-30 and females between the ages of 12-16. There was no wedding like in modern culture, it was a simple party announcing the marriage. The girl's father would give the future husband a dowry, a set amount of money, to show support of the marriage. To become a legitimate marriage, the wife moved into the husband's house. To be divorced, she would move out and have her dowry returned to her so she would have some money to support herself with. Usually, other family member's also lived in the house. If the husband's parents were still living and together, they lived in the house

The content of My Big Fat Greek Wedding is analyzed, the purpose is to discuss lifespan theories, models of resilience and psychosocial development of three main characters in the movie. Psychosocial developmental theories will be applied, to different life stages and focus will be presented from the perspective of a counselor. Character relationships and how they impact one another will be identified and explored from father (Gus), to Daughter (Fortoula), and Son in law (Ian). The story is touching as family cultural identity takes a central role in relation to powerful connections involving the life and growth in this large family that opens up to welcome the families first non-Greek family member.

China's one child policy was incredibly negative towards its people. In China, boys are culturally favored over girls, because of this the practice of infanticide has become more common due to the policy, this is stated in Imbalance and Discrimination where it is stated, "With boys being viewed as culturally preferable, the practice of female infanticide...was resumed in some areas shortly after the one-child policy went into effect" (Document E). This quote demonstrates the negative effects to come out of the one child policy, because parents can only have one child, parents in China will want a boy over a girl as it is more culturally

Greece is also known as Hellenic Republic, the first country in Europe to advance civilization, Greece is one of the most visited country in Europe locate in southern Europe near Albania, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Rep. Macedonia.

Throughout my exploratory essay, I found that there are many different perspectives when it comes to Greek life. I as a member of Greek life myself, feel that the positive aspects outweigh the negative. There are many positive advantages that come from being a part of Greek life. There are an abundance of networking opportunities that come from Greek life along with all of the incredible friends that you make throughout the recruitment experience. One may also gain leadership skills from being a member of the executive council and having to lead their chapter on a day to day basis. Being a member of Greek life also pushes you to be more involved on campus as well as in the community. Each Greek organization has a philanthropy that they support

With such importance placed on a boy child- male dominance rises, abortion rates increase and women have no importance or role in the society. As the male population goes up, the society is more prone to banditry, rapes, sexual harassment cases, eve teasing, rioting and militarization. Shortage of women also leads to socially disruptive behavior and mental health issues.

The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter-in-law into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, "When a women becomes a mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped perpetuate the family" (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls.

Joint family is a common practice among populations. Paternal side is considered higher compared to the maternal. Moreover, couples often desires to have boy over girl due to the agricultural background. Girls are considered someone else’s property since she marries and goes to other house. Most money is spent on son’s marriage compared to girls since it is taken as expenses of same house. Advancement of China and the increased literacy has huge impact on these normal rituals.
