Guitar Concert Review

     The sixth piece was called This The Moment sing Me a Song by Craig McGill. This piece had two singers and a piano accompaniment. The song is about a glorious moment when two people meet or possible fall in love. Regardless, it is a very important moment in the lives of the couple, represented by the male and female singers. When the concert first began, the three instrumentalists walked with energy despite their age. The first song, “Sonata I in G-Major Op. 2, Nr. 1” by Michel Blavet, was a Baroque Sonata. There were five movements and was played by the harpsichord, flute, and cello. All movements of the song were polyphonic because of the three instruments that had different parts and equal importance. In the first movement, I noticed that the flute tended to rise in pitch. In the second movement, I noticed that the melodies often repeated. Throughout the rest of the song the tempo changed from fast to slow and the flute would usually take the lead. First, the overall tone in all three pieces was phenomenal, but there were a couple spots during the performance that were not as amazing as the rest of the performance. In the first song, Hamilton by Jerry Brubaker, it was hard to hear certain sections

The second piece that is discussed is Toccata in F major, by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is a solo piece that was performed in a unison and dissonant harmony. Surreal coordination and impressive pedal solo was extremely impressive and gave this particular piece a broad spectrum of dynamic change and tempo. Ascending and descending theme constantly repeated throughout this performance, alternating in crescendo and decrescendo, which brought life and movement to a classical piece.

On April 11th, 2017 in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, I attended the GVSU “University Band”. This up-beat ensemble lasted about 90 minutes; the talented students of GVSU’s university band joined together to perform multiple different songs ranging from a Waltz to a Dixieland Jamboree. All of the songs that the band played for the audience were all well-known, popular songs that they all enjoyed. Having the opportunity to attend this concert has opened new musical paths for myself and has allowed me to enjoy and kindly critique something that I perhaps would have never had the chance to otherwise.

I have listened to this song but I found the performance by C-Sus Voices was more fun and enjoyable. Each member played as an instrumental roles as bass, beatbox, low and high notes supports as an acapella style which without any instrument. In this performance, I love the atmosphere and the moods that the groups brought out. In this pieces, it didn’t look like they were performing but they really played and enjoyed what they were doing, which also influence the audiences’ moods. Even though Maggie Niscasio the one who sang this song was really tired, but they seemed brought me and audiences a relaxed moment and an enjoyable atmosphere. Also, the song “Singing in the Rain” was another piece that was played by C-Sus Voices, which mixed with Rhianna’s Umbrella. This performance gave me different feelings by combining two songs as one. By singing these two songs together in the Jazz style, C-Sus Voices seemed performing a new song c and matching perfectly between the Rain with the Umbrella. Also in this performance, I loved the way they played the songs and the atmosphere. Overall, I felt really relaxed and I enjoyed the performance played by C-Sus

The concert I attended was called the Faculty and Student Recital, which took place in the Cisco Auditorium on April 11, 2017. The music that was on the program was mostly what is called “classical” music, as well as a Chinese Folk Song, an electronic composition, and variations on an Indian Tala. In the classical pieces, the instruments that were used were the violin, the piano, the cello, and the oboe. In the electronic composition, the computer was used to make music. In the Chinese Folk Song, the piccolo was used to imitate the unique timbre of a Chinese flute. In the Indian tala, drums from Ghana were used to imitate the rhythm and sound of Indian drums. I feel that the fourteen members of chamber orchestra and the two vocalists did an outstanding job. This piece was well put together. I loved the harmony that was brought forth between the orchestra and the vocalists. The two vocalists a tenor known as Paul Groves and a soprano known as Anna Larson, did a beautiful job staying in tune. The way that their voices went back and forth in harmony was just beautiful.

The fourth song that was played was “Fan Theory.” This song is another very lively song that may be one of my favorites that they played the whole night. Overall “Fan Theory” had a lot of the same similarities to “You Would Know by Now” in terms to meter and tempo. Both of these songs contain a tempo of allegro and a meter of ¾. There were a total of four music pieces performed. They were “Overture from the Singspiel”, “Concerto in e minor”, “Concerto on b minor,opus 104”, and “Symphony#2 in b minor, opus 5”. I think pieces were performed belong to classical style.

I attend the concert “UA Philharmonic Orchestra” on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The performance location is Crowder Hall, School of Music, University of Arizona. This hall has 544 seats. The concert has two programs. The first program will feature Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major conducted by Matthew Spieker. The second program is "Dance of the Tumblers" from “The Snow Maiden” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and "Danzón No. 2" by Arturo Márquez. The conductor is Ace Edewards. He is a doctoral student. The two programs are instrumental music. The overall concert offered a wide verity of choir song, from classical pieces composed by Mozart to musical show tunes. The combination of which resulted in an overall enjoyable experience. The concert was not the first choir concert I had ever attended so I went in expecting it to be similar to the high school choir performances I have seen before. I was not expecting the scale of the concert to be so large. Instead of being one choir and an hour-long program there were four groups along with a much longer program. Each of the choir groups had a different dynamic, sound and feel to it. The differences made it interesting.

On Wednesday July, 8 I attended a concert at the Mimoda Studio located in Los Angeles the concert started at eight o’clock. On that day there was a group of four Instrumentalists performing a cello concert. The performances consisted of acts of big composers such as David popper the cellist also Alexander Konstantinovich ,it last about an hour. The show did not include programs so I will have to go off my notes some of the pieces that were played for David popper were Serade, Ballet scene, Gavotte, and La Chanson villageoise. The pieces played from Alexander Konstantinovich were impatient, land of heroes. There were also some Armenian chants played from the medival times, that were either composed by Sahakdukht orkhosrovidukht.
