After completing the MBA program at St. John Fisher, I hope to be working in the administrative field in the Rochester area hospitals or a privately-owned healthcare company. One of my main goals as an individual in the healthcare field includes making the best possible environment for the patients and for the employees while continuing to bring diversity within. Poverty is defined as the state of being extremely poor. Unfortunately, this is something that continues to be a large issue across the country and is very prominent in our own neighborhood. Among individuals who are living in poverty and those who are considered middle class, they all hold something in common; the need for healthcare. My goal as a healthcare provider will be to offer
Reinvest current net income into interest accounts for future variable health care costs for years to come
This case study is based on the Metrolina Health Center, which was started by Dr. Charles Warren. Williams and several medical colleagues with a $25,000 grant typically from the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Williams is the first African American to have services on this category of staff; Charlotte’s Memorial Hospital, which is undoubtedly the Charlotte’s largest hospital. The main concern of Dr. Williams is the health care needs of poor people in the area. He had always focused on making the word a better place, especially for the people who feel less fortunate. The doctor also went ahead with enlisting the aid of a local dentist, Dr. John murphy among other professionals including the director of the Sickle
Triple Aim is an initiative created by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). The primary goals are to improve patient experience, improve overall population health of Americans, and decrease the per capita cost of health care. These goals are a part of the care reform integrated into the nationwide strategy that was established as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Zimmer, 2015) signed into law by President Obama in 2010. The ACA contains substantial modifications to how health care is compensated, funded, and provided within the timeframe of 2010 to 2018 to achieve all of the objectives. A few of the initiatives include the expansion of Medicaid, changes to private and small business health plans, participation conditions, federal subsidies, and limitations on cost sharing.
Although there are numerous reasons as to why I wish to attend this medical institution, its emphasis on serving underserved demographic groups such as African-Americans and addressing health disparities that continuously affect the state of health in our nation were primary motivations for applying to Meharry Medical College. Following residency, I hope to practice medicine in a disadvantaged urban community, where affordable, accessible, and available healthcare options are limited. In such a community, I hope to utilize my medical education gained from Meharry for the purpose of addressing the health concerns and disparities affecting those in society who are often ignored and suffer in all
The Affordable Care Act is composed of two pieces of legislation which are referred to as the the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. The Affordable Care act was passed by Congress and then signed into law by President Obama on March 23rd, 2010. As a whole the Affordable Care Act has specific goals to expand coverage, hold insurance companies accountable, lower health care costs, expand choices for health care and most importantly, improve the quality of health care for all Americans. Another goal of the Affordable Care Act is to expand Medicaid coverage to more low-income Americans who cannot afford to pay out of pockets costs or have private health care insurance. More specifically,
Last year 11 million people signed up for Health Insurance through Obama Care. This affordable care act is supposed to be helping the middle and low classes of America, when in reality its just making things worse. Because of Obama Care, Americans are finding themselves being forced to change their health coverage or even their long term doctors. More and more each day, more doctors are starting to refuse Medicaid and Medicare payments. Which makes things more difficult for a majority of Americans that have Medicaid or Medicare.
There are national strategic initiatives, one of the initiatives would be the ‘better health, better care (2007)’ the key points of this are wealthier, fairer, smarter, safer, stronger, and greener. It uses the government's programme to provide a healthier Scotland by helping people keep and improve their health especially to those in disadvantaged communities. The carers help clients improve their health as they provide a service to those who need the support to become more independent.
This article offers 10 suggestions on how to improve the overall quality of your health care without increasing your costs. These suggestions certainly are not a substitute for meaningful health care reform, but following these useful tips will enhance communication with your health care provider and help you get the most out of your medical coverage. 1. Read the fine print on your medical insurance policy to avoid unnecessary costs. Some health insurance policies cover preventative care, such as routine physicals and screenings, at 100% with no deductible per 12-month time period. Be aware that a 12-month time period is not the same thing as a calendar year, and keep careful track of when you had your last office visit for preventative care.
One cause is genetics some people are prone to more illnesses and diseases than others. Lifestyle choices of whether to eat health, exercise, drink water, and see a doctor regularly can make some people healthier than others. A person’s income and access to health care can cause them to be health or unhealthy. Formal education has a positive effect on the health of an individual. A person with a strong support system can have better health due to the support and assistances they can provide. The physical environment can negatively affect a patient’s health if they are in an area without easy access to health care, or work with carcinogens.
Health care today strives to delineate their core values in the public eye with clear integrity and with intent to provide health care as stated in their mission, vision, and value statements. These statements are the daily endeavor health care organizations labor over consistently. In Miami, FL there is a state of the arts health care organization know as Jackson Health System. They are a massive health care organization comprised of three major hospitals, the only stand alone level one trauma center in the county, a level three neonatal intensive care unit, a transplant center, multiple specialty centers, and primary health care clinics to name just a few of the wealth in services available to the community. If I could sum up their mission, vision, and values in just a few words it would be the the health care system provider that reaches to provide the highest standard of excellence in health care. As an emergency room nurse working for this organization I will describe my unit’s mission, how nursing strengthen the organization’s mission and vision, the structure of the emergency room department, the centralized model they use, and some of the pros and cons to the use of a centralized model in the emergency room setting. I will explain key theories of how the organization is a social system, the benefits, risks, and definition of shared governance, and how their mission, vision, and values provide strategic direction to everyone involved in it’s operations.
Highlight rationale for choice of subject related to health benefits and current health and social care agenda. The rationale provided demonstrates an exemplary understanding with a very high level of evaluation of the supporting evidence from policy and literature. Do I understand the nature of the health promotion activity? Including local, national and professional relevance? Can I discuss with confidence the evidence base for what I am doing or have done?
Our mission statement currently at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee is through better health peace of mind this was recently changed from a lengthy one so could remember it (CITE HERE). When I first heard about our new mission statement I thought it was too simple but it does make a good point. My department lives this mission everyday by contacting members to make sure they have their preventive care such as their annual Pap smear and prostate exams up to date. Our members have told me many times when I call to do a health screening with them that preventive screenings have saved their lives. If their doctor had not ordered these tests and diagnosed their illness earlier for example cancer they would not have had all the options for care.
Before I can discuss why I am choosing to work in the health care field, health care first needs to be defined. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary health care is simply stated as, “Efforts made to maintain or restore physical, mental, or emotional well-being especially by trained and licensed professionals” (“Definition of Health Care”, 2017). In other words, it is how you are helping someone’s wellbeing in one way or another. This is precisely why I have chosen to construct my career in health care, to help others in the best way I can. I am passionate about what I am learning, I wish to work to make a difference in someone’s life, and there is one specific area of health care that is personal to me and continues to drive me to my goals
Almost every industry in the country is suffering, including health care, meaning that there are specific areas of interest where budgets might have to be cut in order to stay within the given limits. The National Center for Health Statistics has established the Healthy People 2010 for tracking the nation’s health. There are 28 focus areas mentioned in Healthy People 2010, ten of which, being the most important to address if budgetary restraints limited the studies of these specific areas. Implementing programs to ensure the budgets for each area are maintained, and to design a plan B if the budget was
My emotional wellness goal is to not let the little thing in life worry me or annoy me, lately I have noticed that I am more sensitive to little things that shouldn’t bother me and becoming overly sensitive to them. I will not let things that are trivial disrupt my happiness. To accomplish this goal I will need to not focus or try to ignore things that could potentially aggravate me. Focus on the person and not the action and just calm down and think about whatever it is in the grand scheme of life. If I can go a week with minimal worrying or annoyance I will be rewarded with less stress and a more peaceful week. The target date for working on this is going to be a month.
