The places that innovative ideas come from can vary. The innovation process involves creativity of the mind. The ideas that surround innovation come from employees, customers, competitors and even your suppliers. Anything that deals with innovation is challenging. The purpose of this report is to identify the sources of innovation, how it affects industries and to evaluate disruptive innovation. Identify sources of innovation Innovation comes from a variety of sources. For example when there are development teams within a company the use innovative ideas to enhance existing products or produce new ones. Innovations are brought about through the creative thoughts of employees, customers, and competitors.
Feedback and suggestions are powerful tools in the innovation process. Customers are the forefront of innovation, they give companies their thoughts on what they would like to see done with the items that they produce then the company then takes that feedback and builds on it until there is a product enhancement or even a new product produced.
Employees are the ones that make up the largest source for ideas when it comes to the innovation process. Since employees have a more informed idea of the products being produced, they can take feedback and suggestions and run with them. But they also come up with ideas as well for some it is in their job description. Development teams that operate within a company carry the weight of anticipating the needs of customers by giving
Companies find opportunities in product innovation by providing new products and services to customers. This keeps current customers interested in doing business with the company and has the potential to attract new customers. Sometimes this is done by creating new products, greatly changing an existing product or by just changing the way the current product is presented. Another form of product innovation is branding. By creating a more positive brand image a company can keep the interest of consumers.
Innovations form the main sources of competitive advantages and are always of significance for the growth of a company. Companies or organizations put their greater efforts in improving their performance by finding new ideas and knowledge on the best way of beating their competitors and therefore give satisfaction to their customers. There are various factors involved in the innovation design system which can be either internal or external.
Alongside the entrepreneur spirit, Innovation is the process of taking new ideas and implementing them into the market. Key word being “new”, an innovation can be sometimes viewed as the application to better solutions that meet new demand-requirements, inarticulated needs or existing market needs. Innovative ideas range from: goods, services, products, processes, services, technologies or ideas that create value for which customers will pay for. For an idea to be an innovation, it must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. This means is that one must be ready and willing put their new idea to the test. On the other hand, there is recognition that “innovation is also critical to cultural, environmental, social, and artistic progress as well” (Bullinger, 2006). With this stated, high-tech innovation is ultimately the reason why we can be thankful for the many new conveniences of the 21st century. Although we might see the forefront of innovation being very prominent in today’s world, innovation is truly nothing new. From the start of modern man times, innovative ideas have paved the way for civilization to advance and develop into what we are today and at the same time, we have barely begin to chip away at the tip of the iceberg of our true human potential. Some scholars believe that innovation is a

| Thomas, in regards to the line you comment on "innovative changes often originate from lower levels of the organization", I totally agree withthat statement due to the fact that those lower level employees are the ones who are working in the fields, in terms of having their hands on the equipment and having the full knowledge of what improvements are needed in the work field. Innovation often derive from insight and even frustration at times. Good post.
Innovation is a cornerstone for any organization aspiring to set their visions high. The accentuation of an enterprise that needs to develop technology expeditiously would be: advertisement insights, analysing major trends and the need of a flair for professionalism which often brings us to crowdsourcing alternatives. "Innovation is: production or adoption, assimilation, and exploitation of a value-added novelty in economic and social spheres; renewal and enlargement of products, services, and markets; development of new methods of production; and establishment of new management systems. It is both a process and an outcome." (Edison & Torkar, 2013)
Google, Inc. is a corporation that is known for innovation and amazing leadership practices. Google’s greatest innovation may actually be its managerial practice. Google is not led by a single CEO, but by a team that gives it immense strategic and management strength. (Nussbaum, n.d.) Engineers at Google are able to work on their ongoing projects 4 days out of the 5 day work week, and one day a week is designated for potential ideas of their own choice. (Sawyer, 2009) Google has innovation reviews, where each executive presents the most promising ideas from within his own division. The CEO is at these innovation reviews to listen to these innovative ideas. Another way to ensure that some of these ideas have the opportunity to be developed is to allow the engineers to work on these ideas for more than one day a week and in some cases full time. Allowing time to be creative and develop ideas is embracing the art of innovation and
This is the first case study report for the course ED5317: Strategies for Managing Innovation that is based on the Harvard Business School case titled ‘Design Thinking and Innovation at Apple’. The report consists of the following question:
My personal philosophy of innovation encompasses many ideas. It is not only thinking outside of the box, but questioning why the box is even necessary. It is about creating opportunity out of disappointment, being open to different, and unafraid of being vulnerable. It is about breathing, living, and embodying the change that you want to see in the world and exploring new paths in achieving that change. Innovation is being courageously defiant in the face of the universe shouting “You can’t” and replying with a resounding “Watch me”.
The word ‘innovation’ is derived from Latin word ‘innovare’, which means “to change something to new”. In other words, we may say that ‘innovation’ means changing the regular way of doing things and involves doing the regular things in a novel way.
Innovation is not a single activity; it is a process. For businesses, innovation means fresh ideas, developing new products or services and its effective processes. Innovation can be key to any business or company in the future. Bringing innovation into your business can help you save time and money and gives you the competitive advantage needed to grow your business.
Tidd et al (2000) states, “the innovation is a business process of revolving opportunity into new ideas and of putting these into widely used practice. In term of the nature, there are five major types of innovations: novelty, competence shifting, complexity, robust design and continuous improvement. While in term of the extent of change, innovations can be divided into incremental, radical and

Innovation is normally used to denote the process that takes place when a product or a process is developed, from idea to market; the concept of invention only denotes the process that takes place when new ideas or solutions are generated. Baumol (2002) argues “is it possible to have lots of inventions and still lack innovations. Nevertheless, inventions are a necessary precondition for innovation”.
Innovation refers to finding new ways to improve the existing products, services, processes, technologies, and employee performance in an organizational setup. In today's competitive business environment, organizations have to focus on bringing innovation in each and every aspect of their business operations; like products or service offerings, enterprise resource planning systems, marketing and promotional efforts, and organizational structure. The market challenges and competitive pressures also force organizations to use a blend of all these innovation processes in their business activities. Therefore, it is vital to give an equal focus on product innovation, process innovation, marketing innovation, and organizational innovation within the limited organizational resources and capabilities.
