Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 on a spirit of exploration and discovery. As a result, students can pursue a multi-dimensional undergraduate experience both in and outside of the classroom. Given the opportunities at Hopkins, please discuss your current interests (academic, extracurricular, personal passions, summer experiences, etc.) and how you will build upon them here. (300-500 Word limit) The most challenging question I have ever been asked is “what are you thinking?” While it may seem to be an easy question to answer, how can I form an accurate response when my curiosity forces my train of thought on a journey ranging from how I can make a difference in the world to how the weather changes human behavior to the way the human brain functions compared to that of animals, requiring a more complex answer. My incessant need to discover new things about life and the various wonders of the world around me has fueled my interest to develop a balanced …show more content…
In a similar way, the students at Johns Hopkins University do not simply offer themselves to taxing internships or research due to obligation. Instead, these students desire a richer understanding of the tasks at hand and delve deeper into each subject that interests them. That is exactly the kind of person I was raised to be: self-driven, determined, and curious to research and learn more about anything I can wrap my thoughts around. I first developed interest in Johns Hopkins University because of the opportunities students are given to explore a plethora of topics through the surplus of research opportunities available. Additionally, being an aspiring medical student, I desire to partake in the mentoring opportunities Hopkins offers to further their students’
I was pleasantly surprised when I received my letter informing me that I was eligible to be part of the NJHS. Once I looked it over and saw that there was an essay part of the application, I thought it would be difficult to “brag” about myself considering I’m just a normal twelve year old who likes to sing, swim, and ride horses. While I was thinking about what I do to be an active part of the student body of Schindewolf Intermediate, it became a little less difficult to picture.
I am interested in continuing my educational journey in the University Honors Program at CSULB because I see it as a way to effectively enhance my undergraduate experience with its opportunities. I have been able to improve and continue to excel and improve in my studies and I think I can pursue a great education in this program. I will achieve my vision of helping others in the world. I have been adamant in enrolling in a nursing program that I will excell in.
I believe that my scholarship, citizenship, character, and willingness to serve and lead will be a great addition to the NJHS. When completing work, I am able to finish it diligently and efficiently. Whether it be volunteering at a race for wounded veterans, or doing classwork, I do it to the best of my ability. I would like to gain service experience through the NJHS. In the leadership aspect, I have knowledge from workshops. I am able to be a leader without being controlling in small and large group activities. When working individually I am able to keep my self-control, with a teacher around or not. This includes acting in a respectful manor towards teachers and students. I treat all of my peers with kindness, respect
Volunteering, in minor or significant ways, taught me that I could make an impact in the world and along the way build my character, experience the world, and develop better communication skills. I learned this at my local library, Fumo Family Branch. I aspire to become a part of the National Honors Society because I want to network with my peers and people outside of the Academy at Palumbo, improve my character and leadership skills, and give back to my community. I strongly believe that I am a great candidate because I possess the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to apply for membership to the Anselmo-Merna National Honor Society. I am excited to take on a greater leadership role in my school and community. The National Honor Society is known for creating individuals that will strive to show exemplary character in and out of the classroom now and for future years to come. Scholarship is one of the four very important pillars of National Honor Society. I am very diligent about my schoolwork and I always do the best work possible. I enjoy learning new things and trying to better cultivate
Empowering the community is essential to its vitality and continuation. Within my small hometown of Riner, we try to support one another as much as possible and care deeply about our community. Despite recently moving to a town 30 minutes away, I still try to be an active participant in the Riner community. Service is an important aspect of my life and I am proud to help others however possible.
Methodist University was one of my top five schools when I started to apply for school. There were three important aspects to why I chose to attend Methodist University. The most important part aspect of going to Methodist was the education part, along side with the men’s lacrosse program and my girlfriend.
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
Throughout my life as a child and teenager, I was told by my parents that they worked really hard to get to the safe town and community that we lived in. Growing up in Pacific Grove, California gave me lots opportunities that I didn’t even know I obtained. Unless it had happened to me personally, I didn’t really understand the full picture of what others had to go through. Having dyslexia, the only subject I felt I really excelled in was art. After high school, I still had no idea what I wanted to do for a career or even a major. Monterey Peninsula College has boosted my confidence by showing me that I can be and do much more. Two years ago I would never have guessed that I would be applying to the University of Washington.
I am hoping to translate my love for traveling and fierce passion for international politics into a career. By majoring in Global Affairs, I am planning to work with an embassy or with a refugee resettlement center. After graduation, the Honors college will not only add a dimension of prestige to my resume, but it will display that I am a competent, driven worker. Furthermore, the Honors college provides both opportunities and research experience that will prepare me for my career. In an environment with like-minded peers who value their education, I will be tested, challenged, and strengthened with a rigorous curriculum. I am a firm believer that as a student, even as a person, I am like a geode—I must be broken to see what I’m made of. Therefore, accompanied by my academic achievements, I have the tenacity and
If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
“Yale is the place that endowed me with the confidence and the grand scope of the world that a young designer needed to excel and make a difference in the real world.” – Yansong Ma. Yale University (M.Arch ’02).
