work and are applicable to humans. Other animals, such as rabbits, monkeys, and pigs, are also good animal models because of their similar physiological and anatomical features allow them to have a good construct validity and face validity (Crawley, 2012). Mice are similar to humans, small, and the least expensive to use for research. These three reasons are why mice are chosen as a model organism for Autism. Ultimately, the mice tend to score high and fit the validity, physiological, and anatomical features better for studying autism. Mice are becoming transgenic. The genetic material from a disease or phenomena can transfer into a mice’s DNA, and this is how mice are transgenic (Crawley, 2012). This property of mice allows there to be a
The novel Of Mice and Men takes place in a western ranch full of hard working, burly, and vicious men, which is of similarity to the rural farm setting of the poem “To A Mouse”. Similarity between the two works is also shown in the motif of the mouse in Of Mice and Men in which both the mouse and Lennie are being controlled by a greater force. More similarities between the two works include conflicts, characters, and theme.
Achieving “The American Dream” is a great desire for all but rarely does it ever come true (website). Discrimination is a major theme in Of Mice and Men. Most of the characters are discriminated against for various reasons. Another major theme is male friendship. Friendships are symbiotic relationships, where people share their talents and qualities to help each other through life (website). An important additional theme is loneliness and companionship. Most of the characters are lonely for the reason of they are working on a ranch with no companionship. Steinbeck illustrates how the characters respond to discrimination, male friendship, as well as loneliness and companionship.

The last half of the book continued to follow Cece working on making friends and dealing with how she feels about her hearing. She also moves and makes a new friend, Martha. What truly is the “American Dream”? Furthermore, during the Great Depression, even the concept of the “American Dream” was not readily available and was no more than a fallacy at the time. For the 2 protagonists in Of Mice And Men, their dream, like many others, was to “live off the fatta the land” and become independent. However, this was not such an easy task at the time, not just because of the rough economic times, but because people of that era still had World War 2 still very fresh in their minds, with the harbored hatred and untrust that came along with it. Nevertheless, for the millions who died in the course of the war, this “American Dream” was not only something worth living for it was something dying for too. However, in the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the author emphasizes that the dreams and hopes were delusions and has a grim outlook on living life in search of a dream.
Letting yourself feel lonely and become isolated can be a very destructive decision; some might say it’d even be fatal. In many instances, each of the characters in the book Of Mice And Men display some feeling or sign of real isolation. One character by the name of Curley’s wife made early on decisions which left her surrounded by demeaning men until her last days, and another character named George was given the lifelong responsibility as the caretaker of a grown mentally ill man. Then, on the other end of the spectrum, one man was born into love yet left and because of that, was isolated purely due to the color of his skin. Each situation was partially avoidable, led to detrimental

To setup a repetitive concussive model that replicate the important features of the injury in humans as closely as possible, post-concussion symptoms are expected. Post-concussion symptoms generally include somatic symptoms, sleep disturbance, and emotional and cognitive symptoms. Since somatic symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness may not be ready to be measured in animal models, the changes of motor function, cognitive function, and emotional behavior are used as criteria for rationally evaluating animal models of concussion. In a previous reported study, this rCHI mouse model induces spatial learning and memory impairments as well as anxiety-like behavior, which resemble those observed in human mTBI patients [8]. More importantly,
Mental Illness, Isolation, and Loneliness. These things connect and are key aspects in John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men. This story takes you through life on a ranch in the 1930s and how separated the people are from the aspect of work, and the social norms. There is Candy, an old man whose age affects his importance in the ranch, Curley's wife, a woman whose social interactions are limited by a man who won't talk to her either, and Crooks, a colored man who is an odd one out from the rest of the workers. This loneliness and isolation directly affect the characters and shows how ranch life and social standards were very unhealthy.
In the novelette “Of Mice and Men”, the author John Steinbeck utilizes two main themes of loneliness and isolation alongside the theme of hope. It is human nature to crave someone to call a friend, or have someone to talk to. Being lonesome can cause any human being to go crazy inside, and no one wants to fight a battle alone. On the contrary, too much hope can cause the isolation that everyone dreads. Excessive amounts of hope can blind you from other important matters going on in the world around you, and you lose sight of everything but that fantasy. In “Of Mice and Men”, some persona are led to their downfall after being isolated from society; this is manifested through characters, foreshadowing and setting.

In late 18th century France it was common to lose one’s head due to political strife, but could the number of beheadings increase in the early 21st century by elective choice? One of the most controversial and discussed surgeries for the past century has been the concept of allo-head and body reconstruction, i.e. head transplantation. A major advocate for this surgery, Sergio Canavero, has increased its publicity and made major movements to get this procedure to happen in human subjects in the next decade. A recent article published in The Guardian has illustrated this surgeon’s enthusiasm to perform this procedure at all costs and was even quoted to state that there is nothing left to learn from animal studies (1). Although there is much that can be learned from applying this surgery to humans, we have not exhausted the information that animal studies can give us over this topic.
“The Mouse” is a short story written by H.H Munro. The main characters are Theodoric, the mouse, and the blind lady. The author Munro writes the story in third person and uses an omniscient view. The setting of the story takes part in the vicarage, the stable, and the ends in train compartment. The tone used by the author to engage his readers is an exciting, thrilling fast paced tone that bring the characters to life. To strengthen the thrilling exciting tone, the author uses phrases such as: “he was not even alone in his own clothes. “A warm, creeping movement over his flesh betrayed the unwelcome and highly resented presence, unseen but poignant, of a strayed mouse.” After reading the quote above, I as the reader was drawn into the
Rodents can be found everywhere on earth. Among the several different types of rodents, the ones that mostly prefer to live near humans, being the most numerous, are the mice and rats. They live in colonies which comprise of complex hierarchies, wherein they form deep bonds, often putting their own lives at risk to save family and friends. Their best habitats are cavities, holes inside walls, in sewer pipes, in stores where foodstuffs are kept, in the fields and in garbage dumps. As a matter of fact, they love to live anywhere food is available and is convenient for them to put up a nest. In addition, they can easily adjust to any kind of climate and even wipe out original mammals occupying the same niche.
A famous person once said “Judging a person doesn’t define who they are. It defines who YOU are.” Don’t judge someone by how they look comes out in both of the stories “The Lion and the Mouse” by Rob John and “Wonder” by R.J Palacio. Both of the stories have characters that are different from others. Both of the characters get judged, but are very helpful in the end.
