Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment. In the 1992 comedic film, My Cousin Vinny, the story of a murder trial of two Brooklyn college kids finding themselves subject to southern justice, is depicted. Their only hope, is Vincent Gambino, one of the defendant‘s cousins. Joe Pesci plays Vincent Gambino, a personal injury lawyer barely able to pass the bar after multiple attempts. Vinny agrees to defend them, even though he has never tried a case in Brooklyn, much less a capital murder case in Georgia. He faces not only a seasoned prosecutor, but a Yale educated judge. Evidentiary foundations, discovery and disclosures, and cross examination technique may all be beyond Vinny’s experience, but over the course of the film, he is able to enhance his talents. He begins to understand and apply the procedures and customs of the court. Despite it’s comedic nature, My Cousin Vinny is known for its surprising legal accuracy. It has even made its way into oral arguments at the United States Supreme Court. In United States v. Gonzalez-Lopez, Justice Scalia referenced the film asking the arguing lawyer, “What about the real case of My Cousin
Films are a large part of our lives here in America where we depend on them to do when we’re bored with nothing to do, or when the snow or rain is falling. We all use movies as a common way to go on dates and be with friends. However, there has become an abundance amount of movies that we can all enjoy throughout our lives. Although not all movies are interesting to all viewers depending on their personality and what they like to watch. I can say for myself that a film that I really enjoy would be “Mean Girls”. In the two thousand four film “Mean Girls” there is a sense of entertainment that helps in combining all the aspects found in a classical film. Classical films having a entertaining and dramatic plot, and a excellent cast.
Movies solve everything. If your are happy, sad, angry, scared, or annoyed then you watch a movie. They seem to alleviate your negative emotions by detracting you. I watch movies to solve every family dispute. For example, my sister and I would be sparing over a pair of jeans for hours. Since neither one of us would let go of the jeans, I turned on "Sisters" featuring Tina Fey. We winded up planning our weddings by the rolling of credits.
ohn Grisham is a trained attorney being privy to the laws and mandates of the legal system, he has developed a unique appreciation for the courtroom saga. As a professional, he is aware of what is right and what is wrong. Unfortunately, the outcome of court proceedings does not portray “the right”.
I shared in the first discussion for this book about the first killing I have known by someone close to me. A teen whose widowed father was dating my widowed mother. The partisan side of the victim’s family painted an overly exaggerated defense against him. I like everyone else wanted to witness the trial, but our parents would not allow us, and the school prohibited any student from missing school to attend unless they were called as a witness. On the day of the sentencing, I recalled my mother saying it was not a fair sentencing. I was barely a teen and all I can remember from the trial was that the judge
Then the judge send the lawyer again to jail. Then his uncle ask for one opportunity for help them. Vinny got again wake up by the train. And vinny say that he was Jerry Galow and his girlfriend told him that Jerry Galow is dead. Then when he go to sleep a buo wake him up. Then his suit got dirty with mud and her girlfriend went to buy one new but the suits store were closed then he buy a weird suit or something and the other lawyer is strutters. Then Vinny is asking and proving all the people that say that they saw them shooting to the store and killing the guy but Vinny prove that they’re lying then the next day the other lawyer is showing picture of the car that the Vinny’s cousin had that time. Then Vinny’s girlfriend get angry and she leave and in the room court Vinny take her to talk about the car but she didn’t want to talk with Vinny then she talk about the cars and she explained very very well then the cop say that they found two guys in georgia and with the same car and a revolver. Then Vinny win the case because they dismiss the case and they were very
Prior to taking this course I wouldn’t be able to explain the differences or even be able to compare it to the criminal justice system. However, I now have a better understanding of how the criminal justice system works. This movie takes place in the southern state of Alabama and revolves around two teenagers accused of killing a store clerk. Throughout this essay I will explain the legal processes that appeared in the film as well as the processes that did not appear in the film.
The movie My Cousin Vinny follows two young men, Bill and Stan, as they embark on their journey to UCLA. Along the way, they become hungry and decide to stop at the Sack Of Suds, an unassuming little convenience store in Alabama, to buy a few refreshments. After leaving the store, Bill discovers that he has accidentally forgotten to pay for a can of tuna. Soon following his realization, the men get pulled over by a cop and are arrested. After a short interrogation by the police, Stan confesses to what he thinks is shoplifting. However, it is quickly realized that their charges are much more serious than that and the boys now face the ultimate capital punishment, death. As it turns out, shortly after they left the Sack of Suds, the store clerk was murdered. Having been the last persons seen at the crime scene, Stan and Bill are now the number one suspects in the clerk’s murder. Unable to afford a lawyer, they enlist the help of Bill’s cousin, Vinny Gambini. Vinny is not your average lawyer, though, as an injury attorney who has only been at work for six weeks, has never been to trial, and, who, took six attempts to pass the bar, odds aren't in his favor for winning a murder trial.
Without understanding this very important concept we face the danger of sublimanally getting a message that consciously we might not adhere to. Furthermore, we would also be unable to speak to why it was that we felt that way about whatever the issue might be. This is by no means a complete list of how films are utilized as cultural artifacts but it begins to give us, the viewers, a better
That something is the truth. Now it is incumbent upon us lawyers not to just talk about the truth, but to actually seek it, to find it, to live it. What is it in us that seeks the truth? Is it our minds, or is it our hearts?” In his final defense, Jake makes a very valid point. The reputation of lawyers leads many people to believe that all they want is to win the case, regardless of the consequence that it may put upon the community. Though sometimes this can be true, Jake tells the courtroom that the job of a lawyer is to find the truth. That task may sound easy, but when considering all the influence from the media, people who lie to influence the case, and unclear information, it can be hard to find the truth in a web of lies. An attorney’s job is to inform the jury of true events so that they can make a proper judgment. During his pain and suffering caused by the loss of his daughter, Carl Lee loses his sanity and attacks the two boys, killing them and injuring an officer who is also a friend. He did not mean to injure the officer, thereby proving his actions were out of control and not what he would do in a normal state of mind. Jake helps the jury see that it is not fair to judge Carl Lee simply by his act on killing the two boys. He shows them that they must look at the entire picture. Carl Lee was not himself when he committed his crime, but rather a grieving father who’s actions were controlled by his unbearable
I agree with people who say movies aren’t based on real life experience, but I am pretty sure producers have specific messages to tell their audience. Movies might be long and time taking, but when there is free time to spend why not lay back and watch a good movie? Today I will be reviewing one of my favorite movies of all time, Tokyo Drift.
Mediums of popular culture such as films and songs become more than a means of escape but rather a therapeutic resource. Films can “arise from remembered hurts which then get recast in symbolic form” (712). People may use films as an escape from their undesirable feelings but these films can then evolve to assume the form of the event. This occurs because people make an emotional connection with the theme or sentimental elements of the motion picture. For instance, a song listened to during high school can become a reminder of high school itself. When a person later watches a movie that depicts this song, they recognize the song thus fostering a nostalgic attachment to the movie. Therefore, films and other mediums of popular culture can become symbolic thus defeating their original purpose as entertainment and assuming the form as
James was tremendously successful, but he had not cracked the big case that made his name easily recognizable. He would routinely win cases, but none that stood out, until he get the call. An A-list actor was accused of gruesomely murdering his wife inside his own house, and James was one of the potential candidates of being assigned to the case. His law firm had assigned a meeting to decide the defense attorney for Mohammad Elhaj. The day of the meeting was March 19, coincidentally, the same day as James’ mother’s birthday. He immediately decided what he was going to do. James went into his desk and set his briefcase down. He quickly picked up the phone and dialed his mother.
Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. The hard work and artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film art. Most of the great movies are either produced by a multi million dollar

First of all, theater as well, as the film is the form of entertainment. Theater was one of the first forms of arts that made people feel emotion: sadness, laughter, thoughtfulness while being entertained. By watching actors perform on the stage the viewers live and feel every moment and emotion. The amusement that comes with life performance is extremely inspiring and motivating. The point of entertainment is to capture the attention of the audience and that's what
