1. Why do you feel that you would be a strong candidate for the MaCS Program? I feel that I will be a strong candidate for the MaCS program due to my interest and previous studies in the subjects that are enriched in the MaCS program (math, science and English). I frequently work on grade 10-11 math and science. At the time of writing, I’m studying quadratic relations, and anatomy/ physiology. Furthermore, at the information night, upon learning about the various clubs offered at WLM, my interest in the school was piqued. If I was to be accepted and thus attend WLM, I know that I would become a contributor to the school. At the information night, I learnt about three or four different clubs that I hope to become a part of. Aside from extracurriculars, I also will be beneficial to the academics of the school, as I am an earnest, studious student. In both sixth and seventh grade, I was on the honour roll, along with the academic award. …show more content…

My goal in attending a United States Service Academy and becoming an officer in the military is to provide myself ample opportunities to reach my established life goals. I plan to pursue a career in aerospace engineering, and developing that career through one of the academies will help me to achieve the dreams I had as a child. I have many strengths that will help me stand out in the application process, but at the same time, I have challenges to overcome. However, these obstacles will not hinder me from from pursuing my passion.

I don’t just feel as if I am an exemplary candidate, I know I am an exemplary candidate, for the ranks of the National Honor Society. Growing up, I was nurtured to reinforce, academics, selfless service, and last, but certainly not least, character. You can ask anyone that has ever met me, I dislike not being challenged, I find it dull and unentertaining, I strive to do things that are difficult and I love to experience new situations.
I’m always busy setting up for club events, attending chapter meetings, or finalizing class assignment what can I say—I am very involved. My clubs and honors societies help me stay grounded and remind me that not only can I get my school work done, but also help others along the way. Most recently I’ve been working with a club to do a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) panel of success stories as motivation for others. I’ve been working closely with the club presidents of the, Contigo Club, to plan out the execution of this event.
Silently watching from the confines of various x-ray machines I have expended an entire decade. Watching, as disease busies itself ravaging tissues, damaging organs and rotting limbs. Watching, as men and women enter and exit my CT scanner; wanting to give encouragement, knowing the images suggests little, ethically bound to remain silent. Watching, as the images reveal cancer in its inception; still watching as cancer progresses into metastasis. I am no longer content watching, I cannot remain silent any longer. I am ready to become a doer.
Growing up between Canada and America, I never considered accessible health care to be a major concern in my life. I quickly realized just how sheltered I was in the summer of 2009 while visiting family in Libya. I discovered that many of my own family members struggled with one or more health deficits and did not have the opportunity to receive proper treatment. I witnessed firsthand the impact this lack of intervention had on their health, social lives, self-esteem, and education. I did not know it at the time, but that summer would ultimately inspire me to pursue a degree in public administration.
From my four years of employment here at HOPE Community Academy, I have actively been involved in many of our school-related functions. Every year I help co-host our annual HOPE Hmong New Year. In my first year here, Pong and I also started a HOPE Hmong Spelling Bee that has continuously grown bigger and more competitive over the years. I also proposed a badminton team in 2014 and has coached our students ever since. Other than these events that I am primary involved with, I have been active with other functions as well. I have volunteered for multiple family/parent involvement nights and the art/music nights. Addition to that, I’ve also volunteered with the last two family picnics and the Annual Board Meetings as well.
I am interested in public health because it is an interdisciplinary field that can have a powerful impact in the lives of people at the local, national, and global level. As a public health scholar, I had the opportunity to explore many of the public health settings (e.g., government, academia, school etc.) However, even with a background in the field—especially in chronic disease prevention and vulnerable populations—I have a lack of public health experience with community health centers. Thus, I decided to contact others who are working in community health centers. Ms. Alexis Thompson, an employee of the agency, has encouraged me to apply for the internship because the experience would help me gain the skills that I need in order to be involved in health screening; program planning and evaluation; and data collection and analysis.
With about 7.4 billion people living on Earth right now, the question of how one planet can continue to support our population continues to spread. It does not help that this number is only expected to increase, which poses for difficult times in the near future. We are at our carrying capacity, and more people than would like to admit are living way past the normal ecological footprint. Modern western culture has led to many believing a luxurious lifestyle is necessary. People buy TV’s they don’t need, food they won’t eat, etc. Unfortunately, I believe that we have turned into a wasteful society that isn’t grateful for the things handed to us by both our society and Mother Nature herself. It is just the way that some have been raised, and
