Personal Identities: Ancient Greeks And China

Even though Rome and China were different places they still have a lot in common, but don’t be fooled they also have their difference’s, our own government today and maybe even other parts of the world have either based their government on the old Roman Empire or may even have taken ideas from the Han Dynasty.

Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek civilizations both are two of the oldest studied civilizations in our history that show up in our everyday live. The Ancient Egyptian civilization, that was centrally located in Nile valley, is believed to have started/formed around 3150 BC and continued till the end of the Pharaoh rule in 31 BC. The Ancient Greek civilization is thought to have started from 1100 BC till about 146 BC. Many similarities and differences existed between these two civilizations, even though they both were around during in the same timeframe (1150 BC to 146 BC), they were located in different geographical areas around the world changing the development and growth involving resources and influences.

With a strong centralized government, both civilizations greatly honored their leaders but the Chinese perceived them differently from the Romans, which is one of the major factors that sets these two civilizations apart. The Chinese

Another major similarity of India and China was the cause and effects of the declines of their golden ages. Both India and China had strong enough civilizations to withstand the challenges they faced and not completely fall. Because of China’s strong political system and because of India’s uniform religion, both civilizations were able to recover and revive themselves. Nomadic invaders attacked both civilizations and this was a setback but strong emperors helped regain order. The strength of the political systems was also challenged. Arab invaders tried to convert India to Islam but failed because Indian religious leaders worked to strengthen HInduism. In China bureaucrats became corrupt and started fighting for power and assassinating each other. Thankfully the Sui and Tang dynasties worked to regain power and they restored Confucianism because they knew it worked in the past. India and China lost power but they were able to maintain stability.

In conclusion, though both the Persian and the Greek societies were complex, at the core these societies were essentially very different. The structure of their militaries differed. In addition, while the Persians worshiped one god, the Greeks worshiped many gods. Most importantly, the political structures of these two civilizations were vastly different in organization and purpose. One of the similarities that these two civilization had, were their military tactics. Throughout time, armies were capable of creating and destroying nations. While there were times that the two nations were at war, they were very powerful individually. Both of these civilizations had extraordinary military leaders, ideas, and weaponry. Egypt has a political system that is a hierarchy. Egypt has a Pharaoh, which is the king. These Pharaohs were considered godlike. When a pharaoh would die they would bury them in a tomb or a pyramid that was filled with their animals, jewelry, and any other important and valuable items. Egyptians strongly believed in an afterlife, so they wanted to be buried with everything important to them, because when it comes to their after life they start off where they finished, prosperous and powerful . In the middle of the 7th century the Greeks started to establish real laws. For example, the Tort Law.
