Engaging Twins in an Early Childhood Program
Introduction: How to communicate effectively with twins that don’t know how to communicate effectively. I have twin three-year-old boys in my classroom this year. They have class three times a week for four hours each day. Furthermore, the boys’ have limited language skills; they have a vocabulary of four words. They receive speech therapy once a week for a half hour each. Additionally, they have had a difficult time playing with each other as well as their peers. Moreover, the twins’ lack the ability to communicate effectively with their parents, teachers and peers. Both boys have an IFSP, which also qualifies them for an hour visit each from an occupational therapist that works with them on

Moreover, I co-teach a class of eight boys and girls. Furthermore, all of the children I serve reside within the same county. We are the only Early Head Start Program in our area that has both classroom time and home visits on a yearlong basis at the birth to three age levels. Also, we visit our four children that attend the classroom once every two weeks in their homes. Not to mention at that time we work on developmental skills, guiding the parents to interact with their children while improving their parenting skills. In addition to the that we bring information about any resource that the parent may need, for instance, how to get a driver 's license or apply for low income housing assistance. Then we have time to reflect on what their child has learned and how to incorporate that into their home routines.
Review of Literature: Research Possible Actions First, I did some research. I went to the Zero to Three website from CSFEL, which has a family guide for parents on developing appropriate social behaviors. Another feature of the website is how to replace unfavorable behaviors with healthy alternative behaviors by using a solution kit with picture queue cards. These techniques can be carried over to home and reinforced by their parents. This website was recommended by our PBIS guru, Joan. I found strategies that I used with the boys’ mother from the CFEL website. For example, supporting your child’s communication with help of online apps. Additionally, a a

This school is a licensed childcare program and NAEYC accelerated. The center is providing child care program for children age from 2.9 to 5 years old. There is 2 preschool classroom, I did my observation in preschool classroom room no: 1 on 10/2/2017 time from 9am to 10am. There are around 13 children in the classroom. All the children’s engaged several activities like
As a TA You can do with this by praising and encouraging the child to build up good relationship and friendships with other children or children they may not usually associate with. When communicating with younger children it is really very important that we make eye contact with the child and use simple instructions broken down into manageable steps. With some children with educational needs you may have to use alternative forms of communication like in our practice we use hands gestures, pictures or symbols.
“The program also encourages parents to: volunteer in the classroom, participate in home visits by the teacher at least twice a year, enroll in job training programs, literacy programs, or other adult education programs, serve on policy making bodies, apply to work in the program, and serve in state, regional, or national Head Start Associations (Mallory and Goldsmith, 2002).”
For the classroom observation assignment I was able to observe at Stepping Stones Family Childcare and Preschool Program. I conducted observations for five hours each on the dates of September 24th and September 25th of the year 2015. This licensed home-based daycare and preschool program is located in a quiet suburban neighborhood on 4103 Bryant Street, Blasdell, New York. The facility allows for a twelve-child capacity (ages 6 weeks to 12 years with four additional school age) and is owned and founded by Kim Bannister. When I observed, there were two additional staff present. Therefore, there were a total of 3 adults and 12 children at the center when I observed. New York State Senator Marc C. Panepinto was also present on September 25th as he read to the children and toured the home. I chose this specific setting as I personally thought it would be an interesting dynamic to study how a home-based preschool program is run.
For this outcome, I chose the CE101unit 6 assignment. I select this artifact because I provided information in childcare laws, early intervention and family services programs that promote family participation. This artifact shows my knowledge, commitment and desire to help families to find high quality childcare and resources within the community. It’s necessary to be aware of the resources that promoted family participation and address families concerned. One of the programs is known in Louisiana as “EarlySteps”. EarlySteps urges families to participate because they believe families are the child’s best advocates, also strongly ask that families always communicate any burden they may have. As teacher we have the opportunity to work with families
In this assignment I plan to explain how play helps to improve the development of children and young people. Play is extremely important for the development of children. It is important that from a young age children play with things like toys and even with other children. Between the ages of 0 – 3 is when children develop the most. Through play children can improve their fine and gross motor skills by using toys such as shape sorters and using musical tables which have buttons and things to turn. This helps to develop fine motor skills. Gross motor skills are developed through crawling and learning to walk. If children have toys that are spread out whilst
T5 Working in partnership (families; multi-agency; more than one team) Working in partnership is key to benefitting children and young people in early year settings. Partnerships are formed with practitioners, families, carers and multi-agencies. Multi-agency work is different type of services that share the same interests and objectives brought together to work towards purposes. Whilst integrated work is everyone supporting children and young people working together for the child, meeting needs and improving life’s. Partnerships are formed with practitioners and families through the key worker system, communication, overcoming barriers, .
During this thanksgiving break I met with Zurlay Rivera, a daycare provider back in Revere, MA. Being a business owner she supervises her 2 assistants and she makes sure all is running well with the kids. Ms. Rivera is sponsored also sponsored by Child development. Child development and education is the largest child care system in Massachusetts. This company supports children’s learning, partners with families and it is a
The early childhood home visiting and the early head start are two of the strategies to lower child abuse and neglect incidents from happening. “Early childhood home visitation programs provide support and link families to appropriate services. Some help new parents gain basic parenting skills by matching new families with trained providers, such as nurses, social workers or
As I finish up my last two hours at the Early Childhood Center that resides on the university’s campus, it has been an adventure for me. I have acquired many new skills for the classroom, Shadowing for Ms. Bailey class, room 307 was not an easy process but I got through it. Head Start is located on Winston Salem’s University’s campus in its own secluded area, where students who attend Winston Salem won’t bother. Essentially outside of the university the Early Childhood center is placed in a rough part of town. Around you can find low income based housing, run down gas stations and ABC stores around. That doesn’t stop Head Start from producing the best students they can, their mission statement is to “help low-income families in our community put their children on a path to success in school…and throughout their lives”.
The mother stated that she believes it is good for the child to have social interaction with other children. There have been no reports of social difficulties with other children. She thinks that the child has to have opportunities to grow and pursue their interests and you foster the things which are enjoyable to them, which they are good at. It is important for him to learn how to navigate relationships. It is not healthy for a child to be with their parents 24-7.
My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. In first through fifth grade he worked cooperatively in groups, usually respects the rights and property of others, and usually demonstrates appropriate peer social interaction. He demonstrates strength in art, all areas of reading, and in spelling and appropriate for the grade level in writing. He needs additional help in the areas of speaking and listening and in the content knowledge of social studies, science and music. He was average in mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications, and arithmetic computation. In the seventh grade, he consistently contributes to cooperative group activities and respects the rights and possessions of others, and shows age-appropriate social interaction with peers. He demonstrates strength in art, reading, spelling and writing. He was average in math and science, and needs additional
When dealing with children, parents and educators usually have a hard time in understanding kids in order to help them follow guidelines. It is a great achievement to be able to adhere to children and keep them on the right path. When one has to deal with a child it is very difficult to communicate, understand, and listen in order to get a feel of how to guide the child. If all these components are obtained then it can lead to a positive relationship with the child all the way to adulthood. If the parent and educators want to truly create an open communication and stable environment they should utilize the book, How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. It can guide you to establish
Play is an important part of children’s life that keeps them healthy both physically and mentally. It is a way through which children explore their imagination, build various skills required for their development in different areas. In this essay, importance of play in children’s learning and development is discussed in relation to Piaget’s cognitive theory, Vygotsky socio-cultural theory and Te Whaariki. Moreover, the teacher’s role and strategies used in encouraging the play-based curriculum in early childhood education are also discussed.
