Primary Care Registered Nurse

Ever since I was little, I always knew I wanted to be a nurse but I never really knew what department in nursing I wanted to work in. As I grew up, I discovered my passion for kids and how well I worked with them. After some thinking, I decided I would major in Pediatric Registered Nurse. The main focus on Pediatric Nursing is obviously working specifically with kids, infants, toddlers, and teens. Pediatric Nurses deal with children’s illness and injuries. They also give parents information on nutrition, diet and health plans. Pediatric Nurses mainly work in hospitals, doctor’s office, outpatient care centers, clinics, or immunization centers. The main job of a Pediatric Registered Nurse is to record patient symptoms as well as medical history, draw blood, administer medication and give vaccinations. They also help pediatricians with examinations, oncology, dermatology, or cardiology.

Within this, grade there three specific groups. The charge, staff, and field nurses. An RN is like the top of the cake when categorizing all of the different types. Registered nurses supply and direct patient care preform and analyze diagnostic test, distribute medications, and record information of patients’ symptoms and medical history. These nurses do various task because of them continuing their education and receiving a bachelor’s degree because of their degree they are liable to work in plenty of places. Such as, schools, doctors’ offices, home healthcare and some even in the military.

Registered nurses work alongside physicians providing patient care in a variety of ways. A few examples of what nurses are responsible for include: administering medications, tracking patient’s vital signs, helping to diagnose and properly treat patient aliments and educating the patient and their family on their condition and the course of treatment. Depending on what area of medicine a nurse works in will determine more generalized and specific duties and responsibilities. There are many different areas a nurse may work in. Some areas include: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency room, and many more. Nurses can work in a variety of settings, these can include: hospitals, urgent cares, doctors office, nursing homes and home health.

An RN will have to be able to lift at least 10 pounds, maybe even 20 pounds (“Registered Nurse” para. 4). A person in this career should have an energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific (“Career” para. 6). If you happen to be an RN in a nursing home, an RN will watch over the LPN’s and CNA’s, may start fluids for the patient, make plans for treatments, and manage the patients health

Registered nurses are a special breed of individuals that oversee the care of patients in multiple health care settings and are an important asset to have within a health care team. Transitioning from a practical nurse to a registered nurse will build upon my already existing knowledge and expertise by developing my skills and gaining more experience. My future role as a registered nurse will involve being able to think critically and analyze issues more deeply. I also must be able to consider underlying conditions and how they relate to my patient’s status. As a registered nurse I must examine my personal qualities and analyze whether I have the mental or emotional capacity to do what is required of me.

Duties of registered nurses usually depends on the patients they are working with and where they are working. There are many types of nurses and they all have different jobs, cardiovascular nurses care for patients with heart disease and patients who have had heart surgery, neonatology nurses work with new born babies, and rehabilitation nurses work with patients that might have temporary or permanent disabilities and there are even different types of rehabilitation nurses, and many more types of nurses.

RNs provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. Some RNs work in correctional facilities, school and even serve in the military.
