1. What is/are the research question(s) addressed in this study and what is the purpose (5 points)? The research question(s) addressed in this study is the effects of race-related stressors and hostility on cardiovascular reactivity on 31 African American and 31 Caucasian college men. More specifically to answer how people respond differently to situations in this case to racial stressors. Also addressed is whether African American and Caucasians will respond differently to comparable, racially provocative stressors, (Fang & Myers, 2001). Furthermore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of racial-stressors on cardiovascular responses among African American and Caucasian men and the role that hostility might play in exacerbating …show more content…
This study has randomized characteristics with a control group, the different video clips dealing with racial-stressors and different questions to the college men participants. What also lead to my decision because the researchers were using video clips and conversations were taking place among the college African American and Caucasian men after the experiment. Another reason why this is an experimental study because this is a plan undertaken to test relationships among variables based on systematic observation of variables that are manipulated by the researcher, (Blessing & Forister, 2013). The relationships among the college African American and Caucasian men are being tested to see if any differences or similarities of racial stressors of movie clips and conversations effect mind and body changes. Given the types of variables as well in this study of (BP) blood pressure, (HR) heart rate, and possibly hostility were important variable indicators in this study. Additionally, any fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate in reaction to viewing or speaking about racism associated with watching or speaking about anger-provoking and unbiased …show more content…
One of the ANCOVA done is the Physiological Responses to the Stressors which is a series of 2 (ethnicity) x 2 (order) x 3 (film condition) ANCOVA’s were conducted to test for possible order effects on SBP, DBP, and HR reactivity, controlling for body mass and baseline Systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate. The results indicated there were no significant order effects. Therefore, data were distorted through the two orders for all next
3. Sample Population: Who exactly was used in the study? How many? (Be as specific as possible.)
How did you select this research study to analyze? That is, what search terms did you use? What database did you use? What was your rationale for selecting this particular study to analyze over the others identified in the search results? What is the full reference for the study in APA format?
This experiment was conducted to see, what is the difference between a resting heart rate in girls and boys compared to their scared heart rate. What was done to test the variable (heart rate) was I got each person in a room alone and they watched a video (“YouTube”). They were told that it’s a slide show of different videos, because most people said, "there 's going to be a pop up". In the video that was shown to them is a picture of a cat and it is on the screen for about 30 seconds then a scary woman screaming pops up. The results concluded that the majority of people’s heart rates went down. Going against the hypothesis stated.

2. Discuss the generalizability and validity of the study. For example, will findings of this study generalize to other people and/or situations, can we generalize from the study participants to the general population, and do the methods employed have validity?
In their support, Krantz et al did acquire informed approval from the patients. Williams et al (2000) also researched the consequence of stress on the cardiovascular system. They used 13,000 participants who were given a 10-qustion anger scale on their temper. At the time not any of the participants suffered from heart problems. Those who had the uppermost score on the anger scale were 2.7 times more likely to have suffered a heart attack than those who had scored least.
Explain what study design is employed here? Do you agree or disagree with the study design? Explain why?
Death rates due to racial discrimination will decrease if racists are punished with jail time. As stated by Pacific Standard, an American magazine, stress is an aspect that affects both the mentality and physicality of someone in a negative way. With racists constantly bothering their victims, it can create a substantial amount of stress; Having an unhealthy mind and body caused by stress shortens a life span. Since there is a substantial amount of racism in the entire world as a whole, there are a plethora of victims who are struggling with the stress of being a target. Since everyone is different, each person can take rude remarks in their own way; Some will allow the negativity to consume them while others might take the matter to a drastic
Did the researchers’ conclusions make sense, did they answer the research question, and did they appear to flow from the review of the literature?
What was the purpose of this study? Why did the authors ' feel the need for this particular research?
African American women have increased the prevalence of having cardiovascular disease than white women.1 In 2004-2005, a cross-sectional study had done among 674 Black and White women aged 18-90 in Georgia.1 And the study result showed black women increased the prevalence of cardiovascular disease.1 Stress especially racial discrimination stress has a significant role in developing cardiovascular disease as well.1 African American populations unequally affected
