Throughout the entirety of this course I have been able to learn a vast amount of things that I did not fully understand before. While I have heard many of these things before, this class has helped me strengthen and fortify my understandings of the things that will be presented on the CSCS. While I do not plan on taking the CSCS until March I have kick started my progress in obtaining this certification because of the effort that I have put into this class, and it has almost become enjoyable to be able to learn as much as I can so that I can really knock it out of the park on the test. This paper will be a synopsis of the things that I have learned, highlighting major topics and points (from the syllabus), and the final grade that I …show more content…
Upon diving into the first chapter (biomechanics) I found a lot of things that I needed to improve on. While things like anatomical position and the basic movements were a review I learned a lot about the neurological factors play a role in exercise. I learned about how neural control, cross sectional area, arrangement of the fibers, muscle length, joint angle, muscle contraction velocity, joint angular velocity, strength to mass ratio, and body size play a major role in movement. I believe that I knew this somewhat to begin with from our previous class, but a lot more light was shown on the finer points, and this really helped me understand how all of these roles play a major factor in the ability to perform at a high level because it allowed me to paint a bigger picture of all of these finer points coming together. Moving on to the bioenergetics chapter, I did not do as much studying on this chapter because I already have a solid understanding of bioenergetics from exercise physiology, biomechanics, essentials to strength and conditioning, and adaptations of exercise classes. The chapter went into the different energy systems and how the play a role in exercise and how the body uses the different ones as time increases to continually fuel the workout. The chapter started with the most immediate energy system (ATP-PCr) and then moved on to Glycolysis,
The assigned video for this week's reflection assignment was presented by Iraqveteran8888 via youtube.com. The video is titled "History's deadliest bullet". Iraqveteran8888 begins the video by introducing co-worker of his at Moss Pawn, whom he notes to be a Civil War era firearm enthusiast. He introduces the coveted Minie ball round developed by French Army Captain Claude Minie. The design at the time I believe to be revolutionary in nature. Iraqveteran8888 states this round changed the face of warfare as it was known at the time. What made the Minie ball unique was the addition of "skirting" to the body of the cartridge. Prior to it's inception ammunition was a lead ball. They were not so dynamic when being fired as they would allow for gases
The first of the three energy pathways is the phosphagen pathway. This pathway is a combination of creatine phosphate and a fast rate of ATP production. The creatine phosphate reconstructs ATP after it’s broken down to release the energy. Two exercises that utilize this pathway would be a short sprint or a set of lifting weights. The second energy pathway on the list is the anaerobic glycolosis. This pathway uses the energy in glucose to form the ATP. This requires energy for 30 seconds to about 3 minutes max so two exercises that would utilize this would be a longer sprint like a 400 meter dash or something like using battle ropes for a 2 minute set. And finally the third energy pathway is the aerobic glycolosis. It requires oxygen to produce
Business Recitation 1000 class has been such a great experience and expanded my knowledge with the excel program while also incorporating the use of excel to create the PowerPoint in class helped me to know the program better. This learning experience will definitely advance my knowledge in excel as well as assist me to prepare for the corporate world where these skills are used in day to day basis. Professor Williamson, you mentioned in the content section restating that this class went through some major reconstruction from being a communication based where students were required to do a presentation about the choice of their company for 30 minutes and writing a 15 page term paper to mostly excel based class now. I believe that these changes were needed and it really helped me expand my familiarity with excel to knowing exactly how to work with the program including profit and expense analysis, Income statement, bar chart, line chart,
During my first semester here at Stout I learned lot in all my classes but especially in my Composition 1 class. As I did not have the greatest English teachers in the past this semester was very helpful to me. Not only was I able to expand my composition skills but also how to think and develop my writing even further. I could apply these new skills in my speech class as well and it gave me a better help when preparing and presenting my speeches.
When recently finishing composition one, I thought since the experience I had with Composition one would benefit me when I took Composition Two As the process throughout the discussions and the individual projects in composition2 went along. I knew that I was going to be completely lose when attempting to write an essay in composition two. Getting the opportunity to be in composition two has gave me an overall perspective of the process of how a top correlate with writing and research process to an essay. The courses material that I used to assist me through composition two on how to process on how to demonstrate the logical parts on writing and researching an argumenta essay professionally targeting an audience into written arguments. Getting the opportunity to learn the knowledge of an argumentive essay perspective and how important it is to pursue effective writing skills. My personal overview using writing and researching techniques to complete an argumentive essay will explain.
Being a Public Health major, I consider myself ecocentrism radicalized because in my PH 447 class we explore different ways how people are placed in a vulnerable population. In terms of solving homeless I can’t give a home to a person hoping they will live successfully by providing them a shelter. Instead, I have to look at a broad aspect that our health has a direct influence through the social connections we make. By providing employment, help people built the social connections with people, and get them back into society is the way to relief homeless. In order to solve a problem, I have to look various aspect in terms of physical environment, family, community, and policies how it can potentially affect people’s well being. It relates back
Last semester had its favorable moments, even though I wasn’t doing well in some of my classes, I actually enhanced my writing skills which led me to do well in my COM 100 class. Every essay I turned in would earn at least an 80. For my COM 100 class, I always handed in my assignments on time. If I had a reason to not hand in my assignments in on time, I would always let my professor know ahead of time. Along with this, I attended my classes. If had to miss a classes, it was only once or twice. Then the next day I would always ask my teacher if there was anything I needed to review for the class. Another favorable moment from last semester, I found myself participating and answering questions that were given by the professors. Along with the
What would I have done if I knew then what I know now? This is a common question that most may ask themselves throughout the course of life. So much can happen or take place in such a short amount of time. For me I use time as a tool allowing me to keep an open mind and learn through experience. I have learned that there are many valuable lessons to be learned over time. This has struck my curiosity. At times I can’t wait to learn something new and it makes me extremely anxious to acquire wisdom in the future. Although I feel like I can’t wait to learn new things, I think I’ve lost sight of what is truly important. I think the most valuable lesson is learned through the course of this semester is to cherish the time you have and live in the moment. This class has opened my views, taught me how to express my feelings through writing, but most important of all to not judge off opinions of others.
This semester has been busy, I have written four papers. Scoring better than I thought I was capable of. St. Edward’s University was not my first choice, because I knew that St. Edward’s focuses on their student’s writing skills. The only reason I applied was because my mom wanted me to. I got waitlisted at my first choice and then my mom thought my second choice was to far, so here I am at a University that requires more writing from a person than anyone has ever done in my life. Reading and writing are not my strongest subjects, I am better at math, chemistry, anything with numbers.I set foot at this school with the thought that I was going to fail or just barely pass Rhetoric and Composition. I was going to take it in the a university that its goal is to improve the student’s reading and writing skills. The truth was, I expected to dread the class. On the first day of class, a man in his early 40s started screaming at the 14 kids in the room. He is different than the teachers I had before which is refreshing, his name is Professor Braun. It’s November and this is the fifth paper he has us writing, it is a reflection on my writing from the beginning of September to now. From Untitled Paper #1 to Are you Certain of Your Own Truth Paper #4, I am able to see a big improvement such as there are less careless mistakes, my ideas are more developed and carried throughout my papers, and there is a more concise support and analysis in my papers.
When I first came to UAB, I was nervous because I knew all the classes were not going
In the beginning of the film, there is a small meeting in the afternoon between all the teachers that will be working at the school. The classroom has a bright lighting and you can see the white walls in the background of each person. There is a mixture of race, gender and even personalities around the room. Each person is going around introducing themselves and telling what subject they teach. They being to discuss the schedules they were just handed and you can hear the overlapping conversations going on in the background. One teacher singles out the students who are nice and not nice to another teacher. He wants him to watch out for the ones that will give him trouble. The following evening, as the bell rung all the students walked into class with various noise and horsing around. The teacher tries to calm the students down by knocking on the desk and demanding silence. The student obeys some of his commands and eventually calm down. I noticed that there's a variety of ethnicity in the class and the students dress in an older fashion. One student showed her intelligence by debating with the teacher about how long each class really is. As the class starts its subject, I noticed that there are kids who are really interested in learning. The ones that want to learn are having a hard time understand what the teacher is saying and side tracking of the subject around what their learning. When it was time for the kids to go socialize outside, I immediately noticed that they
I wanted to start by saying, this class is the most informative class a student can take here at EMU. I have been a student here since I was 15 years-old; and this is the first class, I have actually learned information I can use 50+ years from now. When this class started, I honestly knew absolutely nothing about the topic of Gender and Sexuality. Here we are, near the end of the semester, and I am much more knowledgeable and aware of many gender identities and sexualities, I once never knew about.
At the beginning of the semester, our class was asked to record ourselves answering a series of questions relating to our personal perspectives on issues of oppression, our community, and our social identities. As we are approaching the end of the semester, we have been asked to reflect on our previous answers and discuss the growth and change we experienced as a result of taking this course.
On November 8, 2017, I implemented my whole group lesson at Maverick Elementary School in Mr. Alderson’s Kindergarten class. It was near the end of the day, during the time Mr. Alderson’s students usually did math, which was around 1 to 2 o’clock. The students just came back from P.E. and were a bit tired looking. However, Mr. Alderson had been telling the class that I was going to do a fun math lesson after P.E., so the students were very excited when they came back. When the students came back inside of the classroom, I had them sit on the carpet. Before I introduced the lesson, I had them count from 1 to 10 as a class. While they were counting from 1 to 10, I wrote the numbers on the board. Once they counted to 10, I asked the class if they knew what number came after 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Practically the whole class knew the numbers 11 through 15, when I asked them. A lot of the students counted even further. However, I stopped the class at the number 15. I then told them what the lesson was going to be about. I told them that we were going to do a fun activity over the numbers 11 to 15. I told them that we were going to find different ways to represent the numbers 11 to 15. The standard or TEK that I used was TEK K.2B, which was about writing and representing whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or pictures. I chose to only go up to the number 15 for this lesson because Mr. Alderson’s class was going over the numbers 11 through 15 this week.
One thing that I have very significant as a student of problem solving is continually using the entry phase when given a problem. The entry phase allowed me to focus on the logistics of the problem. The following questions is what I found myself asking as a learner of problem solving: what are you trying to find/want to know about the problem, what do you know about the problem and what questions do you have? I not only used these questions in problem solving, but also in my other math classes at UNI. They helped think about what was important in the math question I was trying to solve. I have always struggled with comprehension, I know if I was introduced to this method when I was elementary school, I would have been successful in word problems. These three questions allow the students to break down the question and think before trying to solve. It almost slows down their thought process, which can be beneficial for all types of students.
