The ‘Reign of Terror’ also called ‘The Terror’ was the main part of the French revolution as it was made to fight the enemies of the revolution and to prevent counter-revolution from happening. France was surrounded by armies from on all sides and so the revolutionary government decided to make ‘Terror.’ The ‘Terror’ was when hard measures were taken out on anyone suspected as an enemy of the revolution, during a 10-month period.
Maximillian de Robespierre was the maker and the ruler of the ‘Reign of Terror,’ which made him one of the most influential men of the French Revolution. The extraordinary intensification of the ‘Reign of Terror’ and Maximillian de Robespierre’s dictatorship caused him to loose numerous followers. Subsequently, members of the Revolutionary government started suspecting Robespierre’s motives, as there were no more threats from enemies outside the country. Soon, he called for another purge and he was believed to be threatening members of the Committee of Public Safety. The Jacobins grew tired of his reckless actions and in that moment Cambon rose in the Convention and said, "…It is time to tell the whole truth. One man alone is paralyzing the will of the Convention. And that man is Robespierre." Later, when he was elected as the head of the Committee of Public Safety, he used his position to further impose his grandeur and beliefs onto the people of France. Simply, by being a part of the committee, the Jacobin Club and with help of the sans coulottes he brutally killed anyone he suspected of opposing him and his beliefs. In less than an year approximately 300,000 people suspected as enemies were arrested, more than 10,000 died in prison and 17, 000 were executed by guillotine. During this time, Robespierre also executed numerous political opponents.
