Imagine how hard it would be to live in the 1760s. Now imagine living in the 1760s and having a bunch of taxes put on all the things that you use most. This is what the American colonists had to live through. In the 1760s, the British parliament placed taxes and laws on the American colonists. The colonists got very upset with Great Britain and started to protest. Eventually these protests led to the revolutionary war. Two british laws that the colonists thought were unfair were the high taxes on their goods without anyone to represent the colonists and the law that let the british soldiers quarter in the colonist homes. The colonists responded by doing boycotting British Goods and protesting. The Colonists were very upset with the British for putting unfair taxes on them. These taxes were called the stamp act. For example, the Stamp Act taxed Playing cards,dice, newspapers,and even a lawyer's license(Doc. 3). The colonists responded by boycotting the British goods. The purpose of the intolerable acts was to punish the colonists for their protests, while the purpose of the other acts was to earn money to pay for the French and Indian war (OI). After the Boston Tea Party, the British Government was furious. When told of the protests, one British official said “This will not stand. The colonist dogs shall be ground into their savage soil.” (Doc. 4). The quartering act was probably one of the worst parts of the intolerable acts. It allowed all British troops to be quartered in unoccupied colonial buildings and homes (Doc. 6). In 1774, The value of British goods plummeted (Doc. 2). This was just after the Intolerable acts and the colonists boycotted more than ever. There were also protests and riots.
