There is a huge difference between signs and symbols and many of these were seen in the movie Secondhand Lions. A sign is a physical thing, gibes a brief message, stands for something, and usually instructs someone about something. Examples of signs are warning signs, street signs, informations signs, open/closed signs of shops and restaurants, and many more. A symbol, on the other hand, is something that is visible but represents something invisible that is hard to put into words. It requires your interpretation and they affect how we feel. Examples of symbols are actions like hugs or hand shakes when someone passes away, objects like wedding rings to represent a couples love, a dove to express peace, and a cross to represent Christianity. …show more content…

It has many things in there from their trip including a picture of Hubs girl, Jasmine. c- The garden is a symbol of Africa. The lion was at home in the garden and felt that was his closest thing he had to a home. d- The airplane is a symbol because it shows how the uncles still want to be young and live their life no matter how old they are. It represents their freedom and carefreeness.
3. a- The letters from Walters mother is where she told Walter the truth. When she dropped him off she lied and said she was going court reporting school. Days latter Mae send Walter a letter telling him where she really is and what is going on. b- The teens in the bar were important in this story because they brought out the warrior side in Hub. Walter had never seen Hub fight. Now that he did, he was starting to believe everything he had been told about Europe. c- The Sheik was important to the story to show that the big king doesn't always get the girl in the end, like in most stories. Hub defeated the great Sheik and was very proud. Also won over the girl. Hub had a great impact on him because when he passes away Sheiks grandson comes to say his apologies
