Secondhand Lions: Movie Analysis

       Walter was upset when he heard his mother had spent the insurance money on the house and thought it wasn't fair that Beneatha got some of it for her medical school while he got nothing for his liquor store business. Lena, who always wanted her son to be happy, trustingly gave the rest of the insurance money to Walter. Holding the money in his hands, Walter thanked his mother and appreciated the trust she had in him. Walter then gave the money to his buddies to help him getting his liquor license without realizing that they betrayed him. As his dream crumbled to pieces, Walter was regret that he didn't listen to his mother, wife and sister.

The movie, Secondhand Lions, is the story of a young boy (Walter) who is dropped off at the home of his two elderly uncles (Uncle Hub and Uncle Garth) by his single mother. There are rumors surrounding Uncle Hub and Uncle Garth’s past lives and speculation that they have millions of dollars hidden on their land. Relatives and strangers hope to find or inherit some of the cash. Both uncles are reluctant to have Walter at their home and view him as a nuisance. Uncle Garth beings to tell Walter tails of him and Hub’s adventures as young men serving in the French Foreign Lesion during World War I. Uncle Hub is a wild character, who seems to be desperately trying to hold onto his youth and prove that he is still as strong and capable as ever.

So first will talk about the difference between the two main characters Walter and the narrator. Now Walter problems are based on a lie/how much he likes Teresa and what he does to embarrass himself. Like when he lies and says that he know good french. Now we will get into the narrator just wants lots of attention so he says he has this sickness that he says affects the heart is what his dad told him at dinner the night before

Both “Raising Voices for Cecil the Lion” by National Public Radio author Barbara J. King and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies have an underlying theme of how society works and comes together to deal with a threat or problem. They both show that people do tend to unite on sides of an issue.

Little Guy is a minor character in the short story, “A Wall of Fire Rising.” The male child had such petite coiled locks that no extent of grooming could ever arrange them all to look like a single individual (Danticat 367). This minor character adds a sense of sadness and hope even though he is portrayed as a happy, worry-free child. Little Guy may be a minor character, but he plays a major role in the short story. To begin, the purpose of a minor character is to propel the plot forward, reveals info or additional insight about the major characters, and to set the tone of the story.

In the rest of the chapter, Walter wrote about his hidden voice. Elizabeth Barrett Browning, a poet who he could relate to because she wrote from her heart and about love. In chapter 10 Walter, felt lost. His classmates were talking

The American dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, however, it can only be achieved through hard work in a fair society. The American Dream played a major role during the 1890’s when the Great Depression stung the country. The concept of this state of mind tends to lead to false hope that every person can live a richer and more full life, with equal opportunity regardless of social class. Hamlin Garland’s “Under The Lion’s Paw” reinforces the socio-economic factors that cause people trying to obtain the American dream to fail and refers to this state of mind as the “lion’s paw.” Garland shares with the audience the negative effects that success can bring, leading to greed, and the issue of land speculation. Garland brings attention to the consequences that the American dream arises, such as the never ending cycle of poverty due to socio-economic factors that prevent people from achieving the “dream.”

Even as her family deals with the loss of Katherine , their mother, instead of being sad Rosie stays positive and helps her family stay close and connect .Rosie is always there to cheer Benjamin and Dylan up , helping the family grow together, keeping Benjamin focused on something other than the loss of his wife.
