Cottonmouth or Mr. Stokes, leads a gang who sells illegal weapons. Many of the characters introduced in the pilot episode are in Stokes' gang or in a gang of their own. Stanley "Tookie" Williams was one of the leaders for the West Side Crips, yet once he was incarcerated he changed his stance on gangs. Williams became an anti-gang activist while in prison, publishing several books describing the dangers associated with gangs. Gangs are prevalent in countless cities, however, they are not exclusive to African Americans or any other race. Anyone of any race could potentially join a gang. One's gang related activities does not depend on their skin color. While there are people of innumerable colors in gangs, the vast majority of individuals do not conspire with criminals in gang related matters. This includes African Americans. The gangs are portrayed as lucrative organizations, and yet the majority of African Americans in the show choose to work meager paying jobs to get by. Most African Americans are not involved in gangs or gang

In front of Sampson, who had recently redeemed his certificate to hunt the rarest of all animals, stood Williams. Williams was dressed in the traditional khaki uniform of a hunting guide. His khaki short sleeve shirt with the top two buttons opened and sleeves rolled up to his shoulders provided the cause for his terrible tan lines. His canvas belt, wrapped tightly around his waist, had a deep brown leather revolver holster attached to it. Inside of the holster rested a black metallic six-cylinder revolver .45 caliber. William’s shorts, khaki in color, matching his shirt, must have been shorter in length than his other shorts because they revealed hints of sinewy pale thigh muscle, virgin to the sun’s browning radiation. For socks and shoes, Williams had knee high hunting socks and dark brown leather boots with 52
History is something that we all learn in school. American history is important for me especially because I am an American citizen and it is something I love to study. Segregation is something that the U.S. has always been late on. When you think about civil rights who do you think about? Martin Luther King Jr.? There are a lot of civil right activist who are cast away in Martin Luther King Jr.’s shadow and they rarely get their stories told. I agree, that Martin Luther King Jr. is a person we should mention in our history books, but we should not just “glorify” him and leave the others castaway in his shadow. What Americans need to understand is that all races that are non-white were segregated and the African Americans were not the only people who suffered there were many others who have been shamed for their skin

It’s opening scene included a lovely green landscape which leads you to the main character showing that she will be lively. Then when you meet the kids you are greeted with a dull staircase with and a whistle to show that they are obedient and do not bend the rules. The house is dull, and the children clothes are also grey showing how out of place Maria is. The film is an American musical drama.
In the 1950’s when segregation laws were still very present in America and racism was at its peak, America did not care that they were ruining the lives of African Americans everywhere. America also did not know that they had created two very dangerous monsters who would later run the streets of Los angles, using murder to do so. In Stacy Peralta’s documentary film called “The Crips and Bloods: Made in America”, gangs and gang violence is explained and shown in great detail. This documentary is used to attempt to bring attention to these gang’s brutal way of life and what caused this monstrosity. It is also used to bring attention to what can be done to prevent any further gang violence and possibly help bring in funds for programs that help with this cause, since they receive no federal money. This documentary is successful in doing this by using raw footage to create a feeling to some degree of sympathy for the people involved with gang activity. They also use every day people who have had their lives forever impacted because of gang violence.

He strived to create a free, democratic country for all people. The 1950’s was a dangerous era for black people in South Africa. Mandela, being black, was an activist against the Apartheid state. In 1944, Mandela formed the African National Congress Youth League, an organization that encouraged leadership against the segregation in South Africa. Mandela was charged for treason in 1956, and sent to jail for causing uprisings towards unfair employers. After his trial, there was a protest against inequality towards black people in Sharpeville. Sixty nine black protesters were shot and killed by police. In response to the massacre, Mandela quickly formed a Guerrilla fighting group, called the uMkhonto we Sizwe, or “the spear of the nation.” In 1961, the ANC resorted to violence. The ANC used bombs to destroy government buildings and they killed innocent people. Unfortunately, on June 12, 1964, Nelson Mandela was convicted to a life’s time in jail. Many years later, F.W. de Klerk was elected president of South Africa. He wanted to dismantle the Apartheid, and in 1989 he repealed the ban on the ANC and released Mandela in 1990. Nelson Mandela became the face of social and political activism and advocacy, and was greeted by thousands of supporters who filled the
Thank you for giving me the additional resources and other tools that I need to be successful in your class. Although, I did not come out directly and say what was going on with me from a personal perspective, this was an uphill battle for me. Over the past year I have been in and out of work quite frequently secondary to a back surgery that had gone wrong and constantly hurt 24/7. When all is said and done, it was not the easiest thing to concentrate while hurting, however, my family, friends and you gave me the courage to keep pressing. Most times when I tried to grasp the material during multiple episodes of pain, the end result was not what I expected, but I reamin positive.
