Summary: Finding Funding: Online Grant Proposal

I have to admit most of the time I am always up for a challenge. However, preparing a well written successful grant proposal is just one of the many challenges to grant funding. I chose option A. a Coca-Cola local plant’s foundation grant for $20,000 to start a class at a local high school on career selection. I believe that it is best for someone like me without any experience to start out on a small scale by choosing a short term project with a public funder. My decision was based on the complicated policies and regulations that Dr. Crum describes in the Grants Managing Section. According to Crum, Federal Grants have numerous regulations, Congressional Acts, and Office Management and Budget Circulars that may have special grant exclusions and caveats. These exclusions and stipulations have specific guidelines that must be met in order to insure funds are spent appropriately. Managing federal grants can be a huge undertaking, especially for grantees with simultaneous grant management deadlines

They advocate for the 8 million+ mothers and young children served by WIC and the 12,000 WIC agencies who facilitate WIC’s public health nutrition services for all the at-risk poverty stricken mothers and young children. Their mission statement, similar to WIC’s, is “to inspire and empower the WIC community to advocate for and promote quality nutrition services for all eligible mothers and young children and assure effective management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children

We will fund our organization by applying and receiving grants from local community organizations, governmental agencies like the Fulton County Health Department, the Georgia National Guard and the federal government.

I will be in collaboration with The National Institute of Mental Health for the funding of the research project. As a faculty member, I have a great history and very valuable experiences with the targeted funding source due to past projects they have funded. I have several contacts from the previous projects; this will serve as f great importance in the proposal process. I will be having a more seasoned expert in behavioral sciences review my proposal so it can be better determined what level of interest the funding source might have in my project.

Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available in our area that we have not solicited at this time. The seventh chapter covers finding grants for individuals. This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was interesting to see the types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The eighth chapter covers international grants and funding. I’m not sure while working for this chapter I will use this information but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to help with these types of grants if I ever need them.

As well, Lisa thought Benny was going to make a separate list for last year grants they wanted to fund; however, he put these on the FY17 Funding Plan. As I looked through their website and found that their mission statement was a bit short and lacked a few things. This foundation provides grants to a person or organization who only resides in Minnesota or New York City which was not mentioned on the mission statement only on the website/ description is when this information was said. Going through the website, I did read the biography of Jerome Hill and his accomplishment. Reading about his accomplishment and awards was pleasing, but it would be more interesting if they elaborated on his passion to help others emerging artist besides stating that he put funds away. The about page on their website is when they mentioned that they are a non-profit organization and went more in-depth of what was missing in their mission statement. I consider that, the about us and description on their website is more detailed and is more of their mission statement. The Jerome Foundation is an admiring non-profit organization for emerging artist or organization and been doing so for 50 years. Even though they provided grants only in two states (Minnesota & New Your City) this gives anyone with raw talent, a chance to thrive and pursue their dreams. Provided the fact that proposals are the gateway to grant funding, there are a few keys to ensuring that an organization submits a successful proposal. The first step is to document an unmet community need that the grant seeker is in a position to address (Neitzey, 2016). By demonstrating that a problem exists, organizations are more likely to explain who will benefit should the project be funded. Furthermore, by highlighting the problem, the organization is more capable of articulating the overall impact the project will have on those who are negatively impacted by the lack of a project addressing the problem. The second step is to demonstrate a clear plan for the program (Neitzey, 2016). Once developed, the plan successfully articulates the organization’s ability to identify themselves as a unique, yet impactful organization. Essentially, the plan is to show that the organization has the necessary resources to successfully end or minimize the problem discussed earlier in the proposal. The third step is to thoroughly research funders, competitors, and potential partners (Neitzey, 2016). Perhaps this is the most important step, due to the fact that without the funding there will still be a need in the community. However, when organizations are seeking funding, they should rely on funding that align with their mission. By doing so, they are not mission drifting, and they are applying for funds
