The Outsiders Movie And Book Differences

The first difference between the movie and the book is in the movie Darry pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy got home so late. In the book, after Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy, Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny in hopes of running away. But in the movie Darry pushes Ponyboy instead of slapping him, Ponyboy was already tired of how Darry picks on him all the time. So when Darry pushes him it sets him over the edge. This was an effective change because in the movie when the couch fell and it made the audience more mad at Darry. In the book that never happened so it wasn’t as dramatic and entertaining. Therefore the push was much more significant than the slap.

The movie and novel of, “The Outsiders”, is a story that has heart and powerful emotions. The novel and movie were mostly the same. However they had a lot of differences. The novel and movie have some similar parts.

In the book there are much more feeling than in the book. If you like having feeling in the book you would probably like the book more. In the book you can feel how they feel. For example in the book when johnny is dying you know how Ponyboy feel and how hard it is for him since Johnny is the only one of the only people Pony can really talk to. In the movie you can’t really do that. Also in the book they describe how the characters feel.

Both texts, the book and the movie were enjoyable as the main themes were relatable to teenagers, this let us as the viewer connect with the characters stories and personalities. However, both texts could be improved. With ‘The Outsiders,’ the story was very jumpy going from a climax straight down to a period of none action, this lead to some of the characters stories feeling like they weren't finished. Also with ‘Edward Scissorhands,’ some of the characters didn't portray their roles well enough so therefore, the casting choices could have been better which would have lead to a better movie overall.
