What are the two main hormone drugs?
The two mainstream hormone drugs are progesterone and norgestrel. Progesterone and norgestrel are drugs used to control the female hormones to aid in preventing pregnancy. Progesterone is a steroid hormone released by the corpus luteum, which is a hormone-secreting structure that develops in an ovary after an ovum has been discharged but degenerates after a few days unless pregnancy has begun, that stimulates the uterus to prepare for pregnancy. Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted directly into the blood, which carries them to organs and tissues of the body to exert their functions. There is a plastic string tied to the of the IUD that hangs down from the cervix into the vagina. You can check that the IUD is in place by feeling for this string. The string is also used by your doctor to remove the IUD. There are two types of IUDs, hormonal and copper IUD. The hormonal IUD prevents fertilization by damaging or killing the sperm and making the mucus in the cervix big and gooey. It keeps the lining of the uterus from growing very thick.
