What caused the Civil War? What was the reason behind all of that chaos? This is the question that left many puzzled. However, it is now well known that slavery was one of the main reasons. There were many uncompromising differences between the North and the South over the power to prohibit or to keep slavery. While the North predominantly held the same beliefs as Abraham Lincoln, the South held the opinion of Stephen Douglas. The polarity caused a drift between the North and the South, which became the main cause of the Civil War.
Slavery, by definition, is a system in which laws of property are applied to people, allowing purchasing and exporting of human beings to exist. Slaves were stripped of their identity and had their rights taken.
From the birth of the United States, the country was always divided into two regions, North and South. The North benefited from industry, machines, factories, and even a bit of farming in the Midwest, while the South benefited from one thing. Slaves. Slaves were first brought from Africa as indentured servants, but once the demand of labor increased, they were changed into slaves, meaning they would never earn their freedom. The debate of slavery had always been a topic in politics, however it began growing with the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. Soon in 1860, the country was divided into two seperate countries, the United States of America (North) and the Confederate States of America (South). However, the question still remains, what exactly caused the Civil War?
One could argue that the true causes of the Civil War were states’ rights and taxations. Although this played a large part in the start of the Civil War, slavery was the ultimate factor that led to this event in history. Economic and social differences between the north and the south, fights between slave and non-slave proponents, the growth of the abolition movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln are all events having to do with slavery in the United States that led to the start of the Civil War.
The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.
Many causes led to the Civil War. This all happened around the mid 1800s. It was a conflict between the Northern and Southern states. Both sides had their own view on slavery, and their separate views caused contentions between the two. Both had different views on whether to expand or stop slavery growth to the West, or have slavery at all.
One of the biggest reason that caused the civil war, was due to slavery. The Northern side and the Southern side were divided because of slavery. The South had the most slaves, and wanted to maintain them because they depended on them. In document two from Civil War DBQ, it shows the percentage of slavery between the North and South. In the document it says that the South had eighty eight percent of slaves. The reason why the South wanted to keep their slaves was that they were useful and beneficial for their economy. Without having slaves their economy would go down.
Many different issues upon the north and south caused the Civil War, but slavery was the main conflict. Due to slavery, different political beliefs and systems were created causing conflicts such as disagreements during Westward Expansion and the election of Lincoln. The Constitution tried to balance the inequalities with many compromises, yet failed.
Slavery is any system in which principles of property law are applied to people, allowing individuals to own, buy, and sell other individuals, as a form of property. Slavery was very active in the southern parts of America, while the north trailed away having antislavery laws. Many people began to oppose slavery after events such as the abolition of slavery and the fact that all men are created equal.
Slavery is the main cause of the Civil War with other contributing factors. The north had already abolished slavery, but it was still present in the south. The start of the war was created by the north having abolishment of slavery and the south still using slaves. The concepts of the Constitution were based on the principles of freedom and liberty that all men were created equal. The American revolutionaries had fought for independence, they had forgotten to think about
Over the years, there has been constant debates and disagreements concerning what actually started the civil war. The civil war had a lot of political and social reasons ;however, the main reason is the north and the south's economic differences. Although the Compromise of 1850, inflated the power of the South to compensate for how it was becoming more focused around slavery. Angry Northerners began to take action against the South in events such as the Bleeding Kansas. Southerners saw the election of a new Republican president which they wouldn't be able to stand up to politically or economically. The Compromise of 1850 was an attempt to hide the fact that the North had a limitless capacity to expand(population and land) and the South wasn't going to expand. The
Lincoln's election went well and he became president of the United states but after a few months after that seven states had seceded from the Union. Many of these states believed and maintain that the primary cause of the war was the Southern states wanted to keep the institution of slavery. Others minimize slavery and point to other factors, such as taxation or the principle of States' Rights.South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. South Carolina adopted the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union on December 20, 1860. The document stated that We, the people of the State of South Carolina, in convention assembled, do declare and ordain, and it
