Who Is Responsible For Friar Lawrence's Death

In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, I say the deaths of Romeo and Juliet were Friar Lawrence’s fault. I say this because he didn’t involve one of the main characters, Romeo, in a plan that later was ruined because Romeo didn’t know. I also say this because Friar Lawrence was quite a hypocrite. Primarily, I say Friar Lawrence is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths because he did not involve Romeo in a plan to have Juliet appear dead,so she could get away from her parents, and get out of marrying Paris. First off, Friar Lawrence sent Friar John, but he did not get the message to Romeo, that he needed to go to the Capulet's tomb and get Juliet away when she wakes up.

There’s a lot to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. For example, Mercutio putting the curse in the family and Balthasar bringing the news to Romeo. The most blame lies with Friar Lawrence though, as he made the plan and married Romeo and Juliet secretly.

Friar Lawrence comes up with what seems like a phenomenal plan; fake a death, escape the city, and live happily ever after! Sadly, Friar Lawrence is making a fatal mistake; instead of simply telling Romeo of his and Juliet's plan, he plans on sending a letter through Friar John. To his surprise the letter does not go through! "After I found him, the healthy officers,/suspecting we were in a house infected by the plague,/boarded up the doors, and wouldn't let us out. So I couldn't go/ to Mantua"(5.2.6-9). As Friar John explains, he was suspected of having the plague and was not able to deliver the letter to Romeo. Although the letter seems like a liable idea, it is not nearly as reliable as simply informing Romeo of the actual situation. By simply speaking face to face with Romeo, Romeo will know the situation of Juliet and the poison and will not kill himself. Therefore, by giving Juliet poison and not informing Romeo, Friar Lawrence is to blame for Romeo and Juliet's

Whenever a problem occurs, there is always someone to take the blame, whether it be a war between two countries or an argument between siblings. In the play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, it is no different. This story shows tragedy after tragedy and focuses on the tragic events that led the lovers to their deaths. However, there is much controversy surrounding who is to blame for the tragedies that took place. Some say that their families caused the deaths, while others say their counselor and mentor, Friar lawrence, is to blame since he married the two despite the potential consequences. Based on the facts, Romeo is to blame for all the tragedies that took place. Romeo acted infatuatedly, vengefully, and impulsively throughout this play, causing him to produce many tragedies along the way.

As said on page 111, “For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone/Till holy church incorporate two in one” (II.vi.36-37). This proves the argument is true because it shows how Friar Lawrence got Romeo and Juliet married. Also, the argument is true because, leading up to this point, Friar Lawrence was thinking if he should get them married or not, and without thinking of the consequences, he got them married. As it said on page 89, “For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households rancor to pure love” (II.iii.98-99).

Romeo and Juliet could have waited to be married, The Prince might not have not banished Romeo and let him go, also, Tybalt and Mercutio could have avoided a fight. Circumstances could have been different and the combination of all the misfortunes have contributed greatly. However, Friar Lawrence is most at fault for the tragedy for Romeo and Juliet.
