From growing up in an aristocratic family to a military man, Winston Churchill was quite an iconic figure. Not only was he a military man but also a successful Prime Minister of Britain. Winston Churchill played a huge roll in World War II as well with his strategic ways and his actions against Adolf Hitler himself. His background, legacy as a Prime Minister, and his participation in World War II all show the legacy of Winston Churchill.
Winston Churchill, whose full name is Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, was born the 30th of November in 1874. So, in 1893, Churchill went to military school at Sandhurst. It took Churchill three attempts to get into Sandhurst, however. He was lucky to score just enough to be accepted into Cavalry, but it was not enough to be accepted into Infantry. Then two years later in February of 1895, he passed out of Sandhurst. While he was attending he applied himself and graduated 20th in his class out of 130. This led him to his military career. The same year he graduated, was the same year of his father’s tragic death. Churchill then entered the 4th Hussars, which was a cavalry regiment in the British Army. Churchill traveled many places within his time in the military. While he was in Cuba, he mainly reported the Cuban War and the Spanish Army for the Daily Graphic in London. Also, while in the military, Churchill worked as a journalist. He was paid to send his stories to the press. His first book, The Story of the Malakand Field Force, Churchill mainly talked about his experiences. While he was on the North-West Frontier in India in 1896, Churchill began his novel Savrola: A Tale of the Revolution in Laurania. This novel was officially published in 1900.
