World War One was regarded as an unnecessary and useless killing spree, where over billions of people gave their lives, only to gain a few km of overall land. World War One may have been one of the most horrible events in world history, but it was also a huge turning point for everyone on earth, and women were some that got impacted the most. They were finally viewed as legal persons, and many got recognized for their valuable contribution to the war efforts. Without them at our side to aid us, the world war could have ended any decency left in our world. Even with all the death and destruction, if WW 1 had not occurred, much of the world would not have the advantages that they have today. One of the most important changes that happened after WW 1 was the ending of most women’s suffrage, granting women …show more content…
When the war started, most of the fit and strong men were recruited to join the army. With a lot of the men gone across the sea, the only reliable workforce was women, and not just for going to earn money. They filled workshops and factories and worked very hard, but at the same time, they were also the only ones who could take care of the children back at home. Another important thing was that because most fathers and sons were gone, they were going to need lots of food to survive. The problem with that is a lot of the soldiers were from farms, where men were more fit from all the farming. But now, the only people working on the farms were the mothers, little boys, and sometimes even daughters, who not only have to take care of the farm on their own but have to work much harder to be able to meet the needs of the government for the soldiers. The war was a significant turn of events in history, and many women benefited from that turn. Now, women are viewed as equal to men and given equal rights and
World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the outbreak of war. One cause of the World War was militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation. Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. The third
World War 2 was a massive war which engulfed the whole world from 1939 – 1935. There were 2 different sides in the war. These two sides were the Allies and the axis. At the start of the war, the Allies consisted of Great Britain and all of its colonies (such as Australia) and France. The Axis consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union. At the start of the war the axis powers were dominating. Germany used “Blitzkrieg” (Lighting war) tactics very successfully and overran many countries using it. But some major events occurred and turned the tide of the war to the favour of the Allies. However two of these major events are most often talked about to be the reason that the axis powers eventually lost. One of these events includes the Japanese attack on pearl harbour. This brought America into the war and onto the side of the Allies. The other of the two events was instigated by Germany itself. Germany decided to attack one of their allies. This ally was the Soviet Union. There is often a lot of debate about which of these events is greatest, that is to have had the biggest effect in the war. So the question has to be asked, was it the US entrance into the war that made the defeat of Germany inevitable, or it caused by the German attack of the Soviet Union. In my opinion it was not the US entrance to the war, but the German invasion of the Soviet Union that made the ultimate defeat of Germany inevitable. This is because they put
worked in factories expanding industrial output, and helped raise money in the community. The women are what helped keep the country running. When women filled jobs that were traditionally men’s, this aided the country as a whole because while men fought in the war, women were able to keep the country moving. Women not only worked in factories and offices, but working in the community played an immense role in helping the soldiers fighting. Women raised money for the war, collected blood, rolled bandages, aided in civil defense, tended Victory Gardens, and hosted troops. Some women still worked at home centering their work around what the soldiers needed. They recycled aluminum foil and other materials that were scarce, they raised children as usual, and mourned for the soldier that had died. Women were assisting the troops with all that they could in order to make life easier for them.
The country had no choice but to have the women in the factories. They needed their help and were not going to complain about it. They knew with extra hands that, that was going to be an easier way to win the war. The government called on to the women and without hesitation, they went. They answered to whatever work that needed to be done. They worked a 52 hour week at 68 cents per hour. They were all prepared and knew that their “summer jobs” would end soon. There work dominated their nights and days. Most of their work was outdoors as well. Even though some women would much rather be at home helping there families other ways they still managed to get their other job complete as well.
During most of the early 1800s and 1900s women have continuously been perceived to get married and be fragile. These women are said to be very dependent on a man, and unmarried women they had to find a perfect suitor in order to be considered a happy woman. Once the war hit, these old stereotypes would be broken. Women now had access to new life changing opportunities. The war gave women chances to get jobs they were never authorized to do and allowed them to stop being so dependent on the help of a men. It also gave them new duties, which would make them more responsible and treated differently. Even with these wars giving them more opportunities to do things, women still struggled with not being good enough and were limited in the amount
World War II was a terrible time, and many people died during it, but sometimes war has to happen in order to find out what we really want. When they war started, different countries either joined the Allies or Axis, Germany, Italy, and Japan, were Axis. Great Britain, France, the United States, the Soviet Union, and China were the Allies. They had more people and they had a better plan, In the end they did everything better than axis, that is why they ended up winning the war.
During the events of WWII, the world’s scientific community learned that German physicists had unlocked the secrets of splitting a uranium atom. The world quickly came to fear the idea of Nazi scientists finding a way to harness that energy and create a weapon of mass destruction the likes of which had never been seen before.
In today’s digital age, development of new technology and weapons are at an alarming rate, hence arises the need to stay ahead of advancements in order to properly defend the nation, as well as coalition forces and allies. In this period of warfare, the number one threat comes in the form of air breathing and ballistic missiles. During World War II, this threat was present, but was not thought to be prevalent.
World War 2 was the largest and most deadly war in history. The first world war had happened just two decades prior of the second world war and it was also a very gruesome war.
The war gave women, who weren't yet allowed to vote, the chance to show that they were equal to men. It forced many men to change the way they regarded women. More people realized that women could make a contribution in the workplace as well as at home. The first World War could be said to have begun the movement for equal opportunities for men and women.
The events of WWII destroyed economies, homes and lives. What was most impacted was the survival of the Jews, 6 million, or more, people were killed in the crossfire and in multiple concentration camps. The second world war had one of the worst slaughter events, the holocaust. I believe that another holocaust will happen, and we will be so caught up in our, “kardashian” lives that we will give the victims the blind eye. To support my opinion, you would need to examine the past, the present and, the hopefully evitable, future.
After getting an education as well as knowing there worth in society women knew there were more than just a wife and mother. During WWII women demonstrated their power to think in a world without men as they were off fighting the war. Women began to understand that they had more to offer the world other than housekeeping and raising children. In addition, many women wanted to continue working after the war as they had held jobs with responsibilities as well as earning wages. Furthermore, women were the ones making financial decisions as well as working in positions with higher responsibilities. Many women as well as minorities were simply casted a side to make room for the returning solders. This created a silent discontent among women
“Just as the world war is no white man’s war, but every man’s war, so is the struggle for woman suffrage no white woman's struggle, but every woman's struggle.” (Carrie Chapman) When most people think of World War One, it's only about the men fighting. Not even to think how much contribution woman had to the war. Without female help there would not be enough weapons for the war and there would be no one to help the wounded. Also without women there would just be people fighting and no school for kids, no one to help the need, etc. There would be no world war without woman. Woman had a huge contribution to the war which made a big difference because of the new jobs, how women affected the war, and how the war affected women.
As stated by Albert Einstein, “As long as there are sovereign nations possessing great power, war is inevitable.” A German dictator’s political manipulations before the Second World War began secured him absolute power. The invasion of Poland during the war, and the formation of the United Nations after the war. World War II was essential for the historical events that occurred in that time.
"Mankind must put a stop to war, before war puts an end to mankind," voiced John F. Kennedy. Although some people think that war solves all the worlds problems, I believe it makes them worse.
