Ethics, in business, refers to moral principles and standards that define acceptable behavior in the world of business. Ethical decisions foster trust among individuals and in business relationships. Recognizing ethical issues is important in the workplace. An ethical issue is an identifiable problem requiring a person or organization to choose from among several actions that may be evaluated as ethical or unethical. When you’re determining is a situation is ethical or not, there are three factors to take into consideration. Individual factors, organizational factors, and opportunity. Individual factors are sets of principles that describe what a person believes are the right way to behave. Organizational factors include the influence of managers, coworkers, and the work group. Opportunity is a set of conditions that punish unfavorable behavior or reward favorable behavior. “Target thrives on competing to win in the marketplace. We compete and negotiate actively, but always with integrity. Taking advantage of anyone by manipulating or concealing
Mentioning about business classes, students may think about finance, marketing, accounting, management and so on. However, ethics class is designed for all business students to understand about ethics and how to do moral business. The article Can We Teach Character? An Aristotelian Answer by Edwin M. Hartman explains the principle of ethics and how the schools can teach their business students good characters. The author emphasizes on the Aristotle’s principles of well-being and ethics and how to apply these principles to real life.

The problem to be investigated is the application of business ethics. In the business world, ethics are extremely important. Ethics are prime elements that help a business to grow and to become more productive. It is by applying proper business ethics that a business can operate in a moral or ethical business environment and managed to conduct all activities in a manner that maximizes profits while not compromising all other non-economic concerns(Schwab, 1996). Businesses have over the years failed to nurture business ethics in order to fulfill shareholders' interests and to have a culture that is oriented towards profit maximization and high performance(Jennings, 2012; Sims & Felton, 2006). This has led business to have gray areas in their activities. Gray areas are those situations or problems that do not fit exactly into any ethical analysis. These are the activities which may be represented to be immoral as a result of lying and false representations on the part of the business.
During this course, I feel that I should work on building a more professional attitude and behavior, and improving on business practices. These areas will be important in any profession I decide to take upon graduating with my degree in Business Administration. Maintaining a professional attitude and behavior in the workplace will be helpful to insure that I do not disrespect coworkers by interrupting them while they talk about their ideas. It will also help me to value colleague opinions, avoid gossip, and be cordial
The second part of this assignment is that each group member shares their own thoughts about the case study and what ethical issues they see from their perspective. This was a great assignment that allowed group members to communicate their own thoughts with each other. Additionally, we were able to offer possible suggestions to resolve the case study with a group dialogue. This also serves as a reminder that along with working in higher education and student services, there is a great responsibility to uphold the university and the students in the highest
The implementation of a new ethics program would involve a great deal of communication (Ruddell, 2004). Assessing the common ethical concerns within an organization helps to create a more tailored plan for the organization (Belhaven, 2015). Initially sharing the code of conduct, training employees on the steps to resolve ethical problems, and providing guidelines to report concerns could be communicated multiple ways (Belhaven 2015). Another task is to identify a group to investigate
4. Determine the overall satisfaction of employees with the management on leading the organization in an ethical manner
The one thing I hope I will not forget from this class are the ethical theories of universalism and utilitarianism. The survey of ethical theoretic aptitude stated that I had a +5 score which follows under the “flaming utilitarianism” category. The survey reveals that I tend to lean towards looking at ethical decisions in a costs and benefits analysis way. It also revealed, I tend to place a great value on how others are affected my action. I think for me to get a full understand if the business decision I am weighing is ethical or not, I need to also look at the issue from a universalism point of view in addition to the customary utilitarianism way I approach the situation. Before this class, I was unaware how often I look at ethical decisions
Three key components I deem to be beneficial in an ethical training program would be: Conflict of Interest, Handling Protected Information, and Harassment.
1. Ethics is a topic that sparks a lot of debate amongst different groups of people; it is hard to keep everyone in an organization happy. Research one ethical issue that is prevalent in the workplace and decide, as a leader, how you would handle it. Use Exercise 7-3 “Organizational Ethics” to aid you in your answer.
Business culture in other countries and in the Institution the College has a partnership with (6). Understanding the business culture allows the College to design a project that includes delays in responses, customizes roles or defines mitigation strategies if leadership roles changed.
The main aim of the organizational study is to acquire the knowledge regarding the functional as well as the management aspects of an organization It offers a unique opportunity to students to have hands on experience with industry while still in college. These are major aids in seeking employment after graduation. It exposes students to industry environment and work culture making it easier for them to transition from students to professionals. It gives a chance for the student to understand their strengths and get feedback from industry. Organizational study benefits both students and industry. Industry gets a chance to get some work done and test a student for an extended period before making them a permanent
