Ubiquitin takes to cytochrome b-c1 which pumps those more protons across the membrane. Then the are transfered to cytochrome oxydase that takes O₂ and hydrogen ions to make H₂O and pumps more protons across the membrane. This build up of protons between the two mitochondrial membranes results in a gradient that powers ATP synthase to attach phosphates to ADP., making ATP.
