Expert Solution
Introduction

During the resting conditions, the body uses energy from the oxidation of carbohydrates and fats. The major source of energy for skeletal muscles are blood glucose, plasma-free fatty acids, and glycogen and triglycerides stored in muscles. At rest, carbohydrate ingestion increases the insulin levels in the blood. This induces the transfer and storage of glucose in the muscles as glycogen. Increased insulin levels in the blood also prevent the release of fatty acids from the adipose tissue and promote the storage of fat by activating lipoprotein lipases.
